I love Spaten Optimator and Paulaner Salvator doppelbocks. I'll look out for the Paulaner Oktoberfest mini kegs too.

IMO you really can't go wrong with any of these Oktoberfest brews: Paulaner, Spaten, Ayinger, Hacker-Pschorr, or Augustiner. Ayinger is the only one that isn't right there in Munich but it's only a few km away. You may be able to find the Hofbrauhaus Marzen too but I don't know that I've seen it this year.
 
I recommend an open, and cold beer.

And offer me a Killians Red and I'm happy.

I totally agree, great beers. I have had everyone except the Ayinger when I was in Germany. Spent some time at the Hofbrauhaus as well, getting drunk with the locals. I was fortunate to try some of the local brews in some of the small towns throughout Bavaria, they didn't suck. Probably my favorite was the beer at the Andechs monastery, the Andescher Doppelbock is outstanding and it will kick your ass. I have also stocked up on the Spaten Oktoberfest from Trader Joes.
 
Great White is a awesome beer especially on a hot day its super refreshing.
 
Sipping (okay, gulping) Grand Teton Sheepeater scotch ale. First tasted this at a friend's tasting and dug it so I found a bottle for myself. It ain't disappointing. Dark brown color with a nicely viscous, creamy mouthfeel full of malty sweetness. Has the body of a stout but instead of coffee and cocoa I'm getting dark malts, booze, caramel, perhaps butterscotch, and a nice smokiness that isn't overbearing at all. Going down velvety smooth. This bottle was a bit pricey, but it's a 2009 cellar reserve (I bought at the beginning of this year) and is quite large (1Q, 1.8oz), had a pricetag of $15. All I can say is that if I see another...I'm friggin' buying it.
 
Last night I had 2 24oz'ers of Sierra Nevada Estate Homegrown Ale 2011. I wish wet hop ales were a standard. Dont get me wrong, I do enjoy dry crispness as that is what provides the refresh-ness in a beer....But the creamy wetness of the wet hop ales I'll take at the end of the day. Im going back to Total Wine to get more of these.

Outstanding. I raved about the 2010 release last year. I'm glad to hear they released a 2011 version. I LOVE this stuff! Time to head to BevMo to find as many as I can get my hands on. It will go quickly.
 
So I bought the 24 pack of Spaten from Costco. It was $23 not $24. As I was grabbing it at Costco, a German guy came up to me and said in his thick German accent. "OHH OKTOBERFEST. It's good. Good price here too." Found it quite funny. Chitchatted a bit about beers.

About the beer. Drank 2 per day over the weekend and 1 per night the past 2 nights.
Very drinkable. Nice amber color. Nice smooth taste. Lack of consistent carbonation. Some beer poured a nice head, some barely poured any at all. A bit malty but not too malty. Tastes very much like the Spaten Premium Lager (Helles/Munich Pale). Overall - Ayinger is better but for the price this is good too.

Ayinger Oktoberfest gets a A-.
Spaten Oktoberfest gets a B.

had a Ayinger Oktoberfest tonight. pretty good.

also Eagle Rock's Populist IPA. not bad either.

their pizza was tasty.
 
Ladyface Weisenbock. Goes down waaaay too easily. Damn glad I have a growler of it sitting in the fridge.
Grand Teton Pursuit of Hoppiness. Smelling the bottle cap I thought this was gonna be a hop bomb. The hops are aggressive, don't get me wrong, but it also has a good malt backbone to balance it a little. Pretty good stuff.
 
Bought a New Belgium mixed 12 pack.

Fat Tire, Hoptober, Ranger IPA, and Belgo IPA. 3 bottles each.

Sharing with my brothers, watching NHL Network, and enjoying an off day from work.
 
in other news, KRBC's Citra DIPA won the Gold Medal in the Imperial IPA division at the Great American Beer Festival this weekend.

btw, my sister who normally does not prefer IPA fell in love with their Citra. damn, I'm one proud brotha.
 
Going to Oktoberfest at Alpine Village in Torrance this Saturday.

Gonna be drinking a lot of Paulaner that night.:eyebrows:
