Milk Stouts and Brown Ale's have kind of been my thing lately. There's a few local (Richmond, Virginia) crafters that have nailed the Brown Ales, "Strangeways Woodbooger Belgian Brown Ale" is super good and "Legend Brown Ale" is f-ing BOSS! I can't get enough Legend.

I haven't had it in a while but I remember Alesmith Nut Brown being very good. Also if it's in season Anchor Brekle's brown is worth a shot.

Speaking of stouts i had a few yesterday. Velevet Merlin, Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Stout and 2015 Bourbon County Stout by Goose Island. The last one really packs a punch at 14%

Stouts have long been my preferred style. Fremont Brewing Dark Star Barrel Aged Oatmeal Stout, and Southern Tier Mokah, are both great stouts, but may be hard to find. As far as Brown Ales, I still think Brooklyn Brown is one of the best, and is available online. If you like Belching Beaver, you really should try Mother Earth's Sin Tax, which is much better in my opinion. I also really like Stone's Xocoveza.

I've been drinking Xocoveza for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the last two months, lol. I also tried the Charred Xocoveza (aged in bourbon barrels), and the Extra Anejo Xocoveza (aged in tequila barrels), while at the Stone Brewery last month. The Charred was amazing although it was a one time deal for me as it was $20 for a bomber!

I have been enjoying this beer lately. nice mild belgian. I had told my wife that the local pubs had been out of Houblon Chouffes too regularly. so I got this for Christmas and when I cracked it open and poured it, I was expecting a golden ale. this dark ale is a nice surprise, whatsoever.

Ken Schmitt (winner whose recipe they used) now brews sometimes for Iron Fist. I see they have a "pillow mint" on tap sometimes which I think is the same stuff. I'll need to go down there some day. Looks like they are having a pretty awesome release event this weekend and Pillow Mint will be on tap. Homepage:
