i've seen this place mentioned somewhere on LGK (but not sure if in this thread or another). my husband and i went to the goat hill tavern on newport blvd. in costa mesa yesterday.

i got the leffe blonde and he got a hennepin's white ale. his was so so, we've definitely had better whites. but the leffe was excellent. i've had the bottled version in belgium before (also the brune/brown variety), and the draught was noticeably superior.

anyway, i know leffe isn't totally new to everyone here, but anyone who hasn't been to this place should totally go. i used to go all the time when i was going to UCI, but that was more than 5 yrs ago. i also didn't have as much of a taste for beer as i do now and used to get strawberry stolis and 7ups instead. i did actually try my first premium beer there eventually and developed my favorism towards boddington's though. it's a classic dive bar, too, for anyone into that.

i noticed they also had the deschutes black butte on tap amidst 100 others. they even have the various beers separated into a menu of whites, pilsners, blondes, brown ales, etc. for you to choose from.

I picked up a 6'er of the Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale on Saturday while at Liqourama. Can't wait to try it ! It's an American IPA and should be similar to the Harvest Ale or Celebration Ale.

Picked up some of Anchor's Old Foghorn on Friday night. Pretty good Barley wine. Weak in alcohol content at 8/8%, but very good flavor.

Great trip to BevMo yesterday. Picked up a 6er of Stone Oaked AB which Ididn't even know was out yet. Also picked up Sam Adam Honey Porter 6 pick. Been many years since I've seen them in a 6er.

OAKED ARROGANT BASTARD ALERT!!!!

Probably old news. But I just got back from the BevMo on Sepulveda in the SF Valley and they had several cases of Oaked Bastard in six packs!

You all know what to do.

the Oaked Bastard is available year-round now. thanks for the heads up on the Van Nuys location. I have not been too happy with them regarding the availability of most brews that one can otherwise easily get at the WeHo location, just over the hill from here.

I still have some from last year.
I polished off my last Oaked last week in anticipation of the new arrivals. lemme tell ya, that stuff ages well.

Enjoyes Stome IPA on tap for the first time last night at Lazy Dog Cafe. Good stuff. Sampled Lazy Dog's own IPA, not impressed. Another good IPA on tap there is Lagunitas.

That it does. I have never tried the Dixie Blackened Voodoo, which has been mentioned several times. I was reading the the brewery survived Katrina, and I'm going to New Orleans for a conference in March. St Patrick's Day in New Orleans, there just has to be some beer flowing.

I had a Great White from the Lost Coast Brewery this weekend. Fantastic !!! Blue Moon doesn't have **** on the Great White. Lost Coast does it right with not overloading the coriander.

Also downed a 6'er of the Sam Adams Octoberfest that I found at Bevmo on Monday. I honestly believe it is the best out of the whole SA selection (at least the ones I have had). So freakin' tasty and easy to dust off the whole 6 pack. Simply delicious !

I also grabbed a 6'er of the Firestone Lager. Unbelievably clean and crisp ! The perfect beer for the heat wave we encountered last week. One of my favorite lagers, hands down. This one doesn't lack a single characteristic of a flawless lager !

I grabbed whatever that was left of Blackened Voodoo at the Bevmo when I heard about the brewery getting flooded out.

that beer is one of my favorites. think I have a pack left now. I also have a few Crimson Reds left.

Firestone does crank out some great stuff. you should try more of their other brews.

Their Pale Ale is pretty good, and I love the DB. The DB is one of my favorites out there.

I need to try the Porter again though.

I can't wait for the AB 11th Ann Ale to be released. I've recently had one of my 9th Ann's and it has aged wonderfully.

I got this bottle to drink with the choice porterhouse and organic corn on the cob before the game tonight. Picked them all up at Bristol Farms today.

It might make listening to the radio more bearable.

Stone 11th Anniversary Ale

This is a beer that hits you with a heavy citrus scent and taste kind of like grapefruit as soon as you pop the cap and take that first chug. It also has a heavy hops taste that goes real well with the fruity top end. After about 1/3 of the bottle all of the tastes congeal into a real satisfying brew. By the time you hit the bottom, who gives a damn? Grab some while you can!
