Booze The recommend-a-beer thread

I just tried one of those huge bottles of Stone IPA and I gotta say this is a great beer. I always avoided it because it's from San Diego County but it's very clean with just a little bite and not what I expected at all. The trendy label kind of put me off too, but this is now one of my faves. I also got some Booneville Christmas Ale or something like that that goes well with the Stone IPA. Both are great craft beers. THey were all out of the Deschutes Mirror Pond so I picked up some Deschutes Black Butte Porter, which has a bit more body than the Booneville and the Stone pale ales.

Oh yeah I also picked up some Monty Python's Holy Grail Ale.

Greetings, Gents (and women-folk too),
I have spent this weekend with a couple of fresh 2005 Stone Brewery Double Bastard Ales. They are everything a Double Bastard Ale should be: too much flavor and goodness for the average person, and more than enough power to kick even the toughest man's ass. I loved it and will be getting ahold of as much of this year's batch as I possibly can.

I just bucked up and bought a 3 litre huge bottle of the Oaked Arrogant Bastard. When the right occasion comes along and I have at leat one other drinker to help me, I can't wait to bust it open.

I might have missed it, but did anyone try the Stone 9th Anniversary yet? I bought some for my dad and he really liked it a lot. I haven't had the chance to try it yet myself.

I don't think you'll have any trouble finding that one other drinker. I might even be willing to vote for a Republican.

foof, the 9th anniversary is called the Heat Seeking Wheat Ale. great stuff.

doug, I finally tried the Yuengling, and as is the case of getting my expectations high, I certainly was not too impressed with it. perhaps it was bottled is why. or maybe I shouldn't have tried it after finishing a Sam Adams from the tap.

btw, I had a Boddington from the tap for the first time. I thought it should have been a dark beer, like a stout, it looked more like a lager. the alcohol content is still high.

reporting from the Dive Bar in NYC..... their Philly cheese steak was pretty good.

I can help you out!

For you stout lovers, may I suggest Lagunitas Brewing Cappuccino Stout. It may be hard to find, because it released in October for a very limited time. I found some at Hollingshead Deli in Orange, but you may find it at other places serving Lagunitas. A really smooth stout with a strong cappuccino flavor. Excellent beer on a cold night. The deli had it on tap which I sampled, and ended up buying a bottle to take home. My only regret is I didn't buy more.

A friend of mine picked up a couple of bottles for me, and I just enjoyed them about a week ago. I'm not a big Stout fan, but this was stomachable with a really nice aftertaste, not as bitter as I'm used too from Stouts. Good "buzz" with it too . . . after the two large bottles I was definately on the "happy" side of things.

I know I already posted about this a while ago in another thread, so to keep this thread alive, and without further adieu, I present thee....

and remember, boys n girls, this mother****er is 10%, as compared to the 4% crap that Budweiser dishes out.

Just remember that Barleywine is not for everyone. It's got more alcohol in it and it's way stronger and syrupier than normal beer. Numbskull is very good.

I've had the other beers from Ommegang but haven't tried that one. I am not a fan of adding fruits or lambics into beer.

I'm not a big fan of lambics either, but this one is well blended and very complex. Doesn't hit you in the head with fruit flavor like many lambics. I came away very impressed. Similar to the Russian River Supplication Ale I bought at Hollingshead. The Ommegang is available at BevMo for anyone interested.

I went in search of Old Numbskull at my local BevMo and came away with this hot piece o' ass instead:

It's pretty much the epitome of a strong Belgian Ale. I'd highly recommend it to anyone into Belgian Ales. It had a small alc. kick similar to a barleywine style ale, and was awesome throughout. A tad pricey, but well worth it. I've also heard of Stumblin' Monk, also by Alesmith, and now have to explore that, as well as tracking down some of the Old Numbskull.

Happy Drinkin'!

I really like a beer from a small brewery in CO. The beer is called Fat Tire. I have not been able to find it in CA so I try to bring some back with me every time I go to CO.
Finally tried this at Maurizio's in Glendale. They got in a test case on Friday morning and it was gone a half hour into Happy Hour. They already had a neon sign up for it, so I'm sure they'll be getting more. Was $6 for a 20oz bottle but well worth it, a very yummy brew!

OK so I mentioned Naja's cause they have 77 beers on tap here are a few:
Fat Tire Amber
Stone IPA
Alaskan Amber
Arrogant Bastard
Deschutes Black Butte
Deschutes Mirror Pond

And they have a few hundred bottled beers
