Booze The recommend-a-beer thread

So I bought a 24 pack of Firestone Walker brews at my local Costco for $25 this weekend.

Included in it are the delicious Velvet Merlin stout, the refreshing Pale Ale 31, the malty amber Double Barrel Ale, and the hoppy, earthy, boozy Union Jack IPA.

Also at my local Costco was a 24 pack of Stone IPA for $27 and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale for $24. I wish Stone and Sierra Nevada did a mix pack like Firestone.

Last year at Costco I picked up a mixed 24 pack of Anderson Valley brews. They were great.

I enjoyed Craftsman Holiday Spruce Ale at Blue Palms the other night. FYI, Sunday night was the last night for BP, until further developments.

Sipping on a friend's imperial stout. This is seriously one of the most ridiculously dark, boozy, and complex imperial stouts I've ever had. Syrupy, tons of alcohol bite on the tongue, I'm getting a lot of barrel ageing, hazelnuts, and a finish of guava and mild tropical fruits. I certainly hope he gets his own brewing company off the ground because this one would be a sure hit.

I know this has been said before, but it just should be restated now and again. As I sit here with a fresh, slightly frosted pint of
"Pliny the Elder"(RRBC) in my living room, some things are just too good to be rushed. If you have not sampled this offering yet,
then I highly suggest you pursue it at once. For those who like hops, this is a fine, fine specimen..

Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Fest

In case you haven't gotten a ticket yet, there are still a few left. This is a GO TO event if you can make it. The list of breweries representing is on the website below. They also just announced these additions: Bell's Brewery, Odell Brewing Co., New Belgium, Southern Tier Brewing Co., and Yo-Ho (Japan). If you're on FB, you should add them to keep abreast of additional breweries. It's a 5 hour event. Going to be epic.

It is, and it's that time of the year when "the Younger" is out...

For Valentines day, the wife picked me up 3 nice bottles.

Avery Mephistopheles' Stout
Beer Valley Brewing Black Flag (fresh hop edition)
Mikkeller Black Hole (White Wine Edition)

Which one first???

Everything I hear about the Mephistopheles tells me that is the one to savor last. Supposed to be off the charts great. You MUST report back in after you've made your way through those. BTW, your wife is a keeper dude. Best V Day gift I've seen posted anywhere on the interwebs today.

Hangar 24 Double IPA anyone? I can't stop buying this stuff. Just nice and smooth...

That Mephistopheles' rounds out to almost 17%. I'll chime in after I crack it one night.

She defiantly is a keeper. She's a big beer nut just like I am.

speaking of beer nuts, while on a blind date with my wench at a baseball game, she went on a beer run and asked what I would like. I half-jokingly told her to get me some Coors Light. she looked at me funny.

the stars and the planets aligned correctly when I changed my answer to Firestone DBA.

Got my ticket today! Looking to drive up there on Friday and leave Sunday.

Grand Teton Coming Home 2011

light golden ale.
carbonated to the start. tastes Belgian style with a sweet background. I found out later that it's similar to a tripel.

it's a sweet beer, which is not my cup of tea. but if I find it in the store again, I just might buy it then cellar it away for a year or more.

Bell's Expedition Stout. Don't know what the ABV is on this but I can taste each and every percent. Wow, what boozy, cocoa bomb!
