Cracked open a bottle of KRBC Winter Ale. Hoppy deliciousness. Not as malty as I remember Citra, with a bit more biting hoppy dryness. Excellent. Jesus F I wish KRBC would have better distribution. Speaking of which, I snagged a bottle of JOIPA which was sitting all by its lonesome on a shelf at Total Wine. Don't know how old it is and didn't see anymore in the whole store, but it's the first bottle I've seen of it in a year. If there was more there I probably would have bought the whole lot.
Is that a mini can?
a year ago or so, they told me no way for an expansion. now what's the latest? this is going to be real interesting. the lot that KRBC is sitting on is quite sizable and more. It's not the distribution, it's the production. KRBC's increased popularity has predictably led to supply issues, and the brewpub has become a bigger source of the sales, hence no Citra making in down the hill the last two releases. Plans are already going forward on expansion, so be patient.
road trip! I've gone up there first thing in the morning, picked up the Citras, went fishing, then come home all in one day.I have the feeling it's both the limited production capabilities and the fiasco that the Citra release created. Used to be finding Class V and JOIPA on the shelf wasn't that big a deal. Ever since they released Citra it's a blue moon if I see anything of theirs on the shelf. I thought about making the drive up there but unless I'm camping there it's hard to justify the 3 hour drive to buy beer.
IPA's have just been an assault on my palette as of late.
I thought I was the only one with this issue. I tried the Green Flash Red IPA the other night and it was undrinkable. All I tasted was hops. I'm a fan of moderately hoppy beers, but this was just a flat out hop attack. It's turned me away from the Green Flash brand as a whole.
My two favorite summer beers (since the season is rapidly approaching) are Skinny Dip by New Belgium and Summer Ale by Sam Adams. Both have a mild wheat presence with a slight citrus flavor, and both are extremely refreshing on a warm summer day. I haven't seen the Skinny Dip in some time, and some of the other New Belgium beers have been bad as of late, so this one may be just a memory now.

I've set this up with a couple buddies this morning. It's buggy and has it's flaws. BUT...it has potential.
I see that the Pasadena and Long Beach chapters of Congregation Ale House will have Bourbon County Stout tonight starting at 7. They usually don't release this outside of Illinois, although with In Bev's ownership that may change. So far the traditional offerings of Goose Island have kept their quality, hope that this holds true with Bourbon County as well. This has been one of the best stouts produced, with people lining up for it like they do out here for Pliny the Younger.
