Beerman, can you ask him where and when they plan on shipping more stuff to LA?

when they're done with the supposed expansion I guess.

DRG, Single Track Pale Ale, Class X Bourbon barrel-aged Stout and the 7th Anniv release is all the specials that'll happen this weekend. bring your growlers. and when you do go, report back with their "expansion plans".

Or better yet, fill a growler with some of that stout and bring it back to me while I'm at the beach next week. You can beat the heat and I'll have several good beers on hand as well. Anyone wanting to hit Beachwood in Seal Beach, I'll be there all week.

Just back from a quick trip into NYC and the bar at the hotel where I stayed had Smuttynose IPA "Finest Kind". I'd heard from several friends that this was a great beer, so I naturally had to try it (and all other options were crap anyway). I stuck with it all night long. Great IPA. Nice citrusy, resiny hop nose - but much like the IPA's I've been having in Chicago. They don't have the same nose as our Cali IPA/DIPA/IIPA. Something different, but definitely very, very pleasant and enjoyable. Great hop bite, balanced with solid malt sweetness. I felt lucky to find a high quality IPA where I stayed since I didn't have the time available to venture out and find a good beer pub/bar. Highly recommended.

Had a Mikkeller 1000 IBU tonight. I want to try it again when I have not been sitting out by the pool drinking for most of the day, then had a big carne asada burrito for dinner, but HOLY HOPS BATMAN!!! you could smell the hops without taking it off of the bar. The one thing that stood out to me is that it was not as bitter as I expected. I will try it again later in the week (maybe multiple times :manybeers:)to get a better idea if I like it or not.

I may have seen a Mikkeller in a store somewhere. might as well grab it at first sight.

My local store got a box of Heady Topper, was lucky enough to grab a can, it was delish...perfect double ipa.

Head to Kern River Brewing on Sunday. Anyone know if they have anything special release bottle on sale right now? Anything other than their normal lineup.

I'll be nabbing some Just Outstanding, but I was hoping to score something different while I was there.

well?

Those were the 3 special releases on tap. I enjoyed every one of them. Single Track was my favorite. Class X has a little too much bourbon for my tastes (and that's saying a lot).

Class X is in my top 3 imperial stouts of all time and perhaps in my top 3 beers of all time.

if anyone is on untappd make sure to check a beer in for a special 4th of July badge.

Also  and have a happy and safe 4th

no update on the "expansion" plans?

I didn't ask. Was I supposed to? If so, I'm sorry.

I was too "involved" with experiencing the place for my first time (and chasing my son around the restaurant).

**Odd Story** I bought 6 Just Outstandings to take home. Around 3am in my motel room (Kernville Inn), one of my bottles exploded. Scared the crap out of me. Never had that happen with a beer before. It wasn't like I changed elevations or anything. I wanted to take it back the next morning, but we left before they opened.

wow, no way. that's something they need to know about. I'll email Eric/Kyle about it. how did it explode? the cap flew out? or the glass shattered?

Glass shattered...while just sitting on the counter. Nothing touched it. It was kind of freaky. No elevation changes, no temp changes...odd.

Of the many beers I had last night the one that made the biggest impression was Smog City Groundwork coffee porter. It tasted so much of coffee that I wanted to pour some Jamesons and cream into it. Very good stuff.
