rear, L-R: Igor Unchained (barrel aged Russian Imperial Stout), Eddy Flower Triple IPA, Fishin In The Dark Coffee Stout, 1310 Porter
front, L-R: Hop Nookie Triple IPA, Dirty Hippie Imperial Red Ale, River Buddy Pale Ale, Gravity Check IPA

We loved the Fishin' In The Dark. it had a good amount of coffee in it.

I made another trip down to San Diego for the Belching Beaver rebranding. We hit up 7 breweries and a bar. Not bad for 2 days. We started with Mikkeller in LA then Abnormal Wine Co, Alesmith, Duckfoot, Stone, Belching Beaver, Mother Earth, and Pizza Port. . Our first stop was at Abnormal Wine Co. From there we went to Alesmith and then Duckfoot. Wefinished off with dinner at Stone. Sunday morning we grabbed breakfast at pub in Vista then walked across the street for the Beelching Beaver event. After that we walked over to Mother Earth. Then we headed home stopping at Pizza Port on the way for dinner.

Mikkeller (Downtown LA) - Started off by meeting my cousin at Mikkeller in Downtown LA then we headed out to SD. Saturday was the first time they had ever been open for brunch and i was the only person there. It gave me a good chance to talk beer with the server since the place was empty. This place is too upscale for my taste, but the beer was good and the server was knowledgable although her home brewing practices raised a few eyebrows. I would recommend trying it out after a Kings game.

Abnormal Wine Co. - This was our first stop in SD. Another place that was a little pricey for my tastes (seems to be a trend). Beer was very good here but nothing that really stood out to me. The short rib poutine tater tots were really good.

Alesmith - I think most people are familiar with these guys. A big tour bus full of college kids pulled up just after we got there so we didnt stay long.

Duckfoot - This place is a bit smaller than the others but i really liked the atmosphere. They had a creme brulee beer that was amazing. Their Slow Burn chile IPA packs a punch. I dont normally care for chiles in my beer but when you spend two days doing nothing but drinking its nice to have something different. The food truck that was there was excellent as well.

Stone - Im sure you have all been there done that.

Belching Beaver - My cousin picked up tickets to their private rebranding event. $35 bucks got you a few food and beer pairings, a few beers and a t-shirt. While we were there my sister managed to get us a private tour with the head of their R&D which was really cool and one of the owners popped his head in as well. Now that my cousin and I have started brewing it was great to pick the brain of a professional. I think these guys have one of the best milk stouts out there.

tfti!

seriously, the SD beer tour has been on my bucket list. Belching Beaver does churn out good brews. did you get to try their peanut butter stout?

Of course I had the peanut butter stout. Had it on nitro too. I also had a Mexican chocolate stout, peanut butter Mexican chocolate stout, blonde stout (which was really trippy) and I think I had another but I don't remember which. Their mango ipa was really good as well it is called "Here Comes Mango", which might be one of the greatest beer names ever.

holy peanut butter stout overload!

I'm pretty damn as hell much intrigued in this PB Mex choc stout.

This one was gifted to me by a good buddy. I'd never heard of or seen it before. Very subtle mild sourness with a nice smokey flavor. This one was a pleasant surprise.

Barley Forge has the strawberry/rhubarb beer at the 38 Degrees places. it does have the hints of strawberry and rhubarb. but alas, I'd like it a whole lot more if I like sour beers.

I tried their Viva la Beaver, a hopped up version of the p.b. Mexican chocolate stout. nice and heavy with a sweet ending.

err, what are we talking about?

Beer fest

Non beer recommendation, but beer related... Anybody who lives in Ventura or the environs - there is a cool beer fest coming up this Saturday, May 20, Surf N Suds. A bunch of really good breweries showing up, some I've never tried. We'll be pouring Central Coast Brewing beer and I'll be there doing so. Worth checking out if you can make it. Come by and say HI if you do. https://surfbeerfest.com/ventura-2017

Pretty good beer that has a hint of that Japanese style of rice beer.

I would put it as a Dry Belgium Blonde Ale.

Is it just me or does the beer in Arizona suck?

I have had Santan and 4 Peaks. I didnt think santan was anything special but i only tried their commercial releases. I went to the 4 Peaks brewery and they had some decent beers there.

I've had the fresh batches from 4 Peaks whenever I stopped over at the Phoenix airport. they were good. other options besides Guinness were the watered down "national" beers.

Received my latest shipment from Tavour. Since they hold orders and only ship once a month, I'm always a bit intrigued to find which beers I opted to try. Usually it is a highly rated stout, but this time in addition to two stouts, I also have an IPA to sample.
