Booze The recommend-a-beer thread

I really apologize everyoen, I've been a slacker. On top of slackin, my buddy just moved back from Colorado Springs and brought 2 12-pack brewery varieties and 4 sixers of his personal micro-brew favorites. I'll save some time and let you know what was badass:

1. 90 Schilling from Odell Brewing, trying to find a way to get it shipped here, one of the best beers I'ev every had

2. Laughing Lab, talk abotu delicious and drinkable!

3. EVERYTHING from Ska Brewing Co. in Durango Co. I had 6 of their different beers nw with their Imperial IPA being my absolute favorite beer of all 17 I tasted at this past weekend's Stone 10th Anniversary celebration.

4. Everything from Tommy Knocker is damn good too- had 6-7 beer sfrom them, they were all above par. The Jack Whacker was a personal favorite.

5. Paulaner Hefeweizen - Sweet Tap-Dancing Christ!!! this stuff made me a believer! Even if you think you don't liek Hefe's, you will like this beer. And please do the beer a favor and DON'T throw a friggin' lemon slice in it, thank you.

6. Sam Adams Oktoberfest: Better than the boston lager, great if you can find it for relatively cheap in a 12-pack. If you want to go up a step, then try...

7. Spaten Oktoberfest: Tis the season to honor our Germanic brethren, might as well buy from Munich and do it right. Much better tha the Sam Adams, not as harsh. However, if you want to go better than this...

8. Paulaner Oktoberfest: Good lord, what does this brewery do besides make sweet barley and hop love and bottle it? Definite must-try for anyone who enjoys beer and wants to celebrate the season.I've typed too much now everybody, more to add later.

Out of the Beers I tries lately I would recommend

1/ He'brew Lenny RIPA. Found this to be even better than Stone's 10th Anniverary Pale Ale. Hard to find. Bev Mo ran out of this by me.

2. Stone Smoked Porter - So far this is my farotie beer by Stone althought I still need to try the ruination.

3. Rogue Mocha Porter - Like crossing a mocha latte and a beer good stuff.
 
I'm not a big Sam Adams guy but they do make one beer I really enjoy. The Octoberfest is back in stores and it is mighty tasty.

I got a couple to suggest that I don't think are too common.

First, Cooper's Sparkling Ale is an Aussie brew that puts crap like Foster's to shame (although Foster's Bitter is ok). Cooper's has a little yeast sediment on the bottom so I turn the bottle upside down and let it blend in before drinking. It's really a great beer for a hot day.

A new IPA I have been getting into is Squatter's IPA. It's out of Utah and has a nice kick but, to compare, a bit less hoppy flavor than something like the Stone IPA (regular). It's a nice change up from some of the more potent IPAs I've had.

2. Stone Smoked Porter - So far this is my farotie beer by Stone althought I still need to try the ruination.

Believe it or not I still gotta try the smoked porter. Oh the shame! Ruination is good but it cannot be had with food (stated on the bottle). It's like a hops explosion and it annihilates your taste buds.

I never come to this thread, but today, after trying some of this stuff over the weekend, wanted to share the joy, and lo and behold the first thing I see when I get to this thread is this post!

I'm not a huge beer drinker, but this stuff is just great. So much so, that I'm picking up some meaty oniony pizza and wings to enjoy it with tonight.

This, actualy is not the first time I've had such experience with Paulaner. In the late nineties I was visiting my friends in Ukraine, and we went to a pub that had Paulaner on tap. We all got Paulaner dark, and after the first sip we all exchanged that bewildered "this is the best **** I've ever had" look.
 
FYI BevMo has Sam Adams Oktoberfest for 10.99 a 12 pack right now.

Tried BayHawk's Chocolate Porter, it was pure crap. USed it to cook with since I didn't enjoy drinking it much.
 
If anyone is interested there is an annual Strong Ale Festival at the Pizza Port in Carlsbad. You have to pace yourself and drink a lot of water. Beers poured there have to be a minimum of 8% abv, with the highest last year at over 15%. There are some harsh beers and some very smooth ones. Plus, Pizza Port has some great food. The festival is in early December.

1) Blue Moon Belgian Weiss

2) Paulaner Salavator

3) Moretti La Rossa

4) Buffalo Bills pumpkin ale
 
I'm having the Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen Amber tonight. well, actually, 2. it's one great tasting German ale.

I had an Hofbrau Original last night. think it's the same beer we had at the Hofbrau in Vegas last month. it's a quality brew.

anyone ever tried the Bitch Creek ESB from Grand Teton Brewing Co.? gonna try that tomorrow night.

I had the Bitch Creek when I was in Jackson this summer. I am not a huge fan of ESB's, but it was pretty nice.
 
Was in Santa Fe, NM a couple weeks ago. Had a few Santa Fe Brewing Co Nut Brown Ale's. Seriously one of the best beers I have had. Not sure if you can even get it out here but it was great.

I had Rogue Hazelnut Brown Ale recently as well and wasn't very impressed for the price I paid! It was decent though just not worth the pesos.
 
Lagunitas Maximus IPA is incredible. A smooth IPA, which is unusual. Very good flavor.

Also Ballast Point Brewing Company's Calico Ale. Best Ale I've had in a long time.

Sorry, I scrolled through pretty fast. On ebay I bought a Kona Longboard tap handle that is a small outrigger paddle. It is the pride of my tap handle collection.

What is the TSC?

Seconded on the Lagunitas. Quality brewery. Not sure if they will release the Hairy Eyeball again or not, but that thing has a HUGE kick to it. Very tasty too.

Nice to see a few folks enjoying the Paulaner Oktoberfest. I picked up a couple of sixes last week. 'Tis the season! :smile3:
 
so I had the Bitch Creek beer. not bad for an ESB, but certainly not in the same class as most other ESBs.
