The Star Wars thread

Sorry if I missed it but has there been official word yet that they're going to throw the expanded SW universe cannon down the toilet?

Nothing is official. The 2 most presumed things are The Clone Wars cartoon goes to the DISNEY channel, and Dark Horse's license for the comics will be yanked and given to Marvel(pretty much crippling Dark Horse...but get used to it, cause a lot of ancillary companies are gonna get ****ed in the ass by Disney corporate/legal). Maybe Marvel will just co-opt Dark Horse in an effort to not seem so mercenary. That's about the most solid info coming out so far, other than the news about the writer being picked.

oh...be careful. Imagine they **** up so bad that we beg for Lucas to buy it back. It could happen. We all thought the prequels would be a win too. How wrong we were. I guess you guys are mostly all in. You think it could be like DARK HORSE's handling of the material(which I have no experience with but have heard good things about)? Hey, if SOMEONE could get a standalone series redeeming Boba Fett(the best ever character whom has repeatedly been done dirty to) I am all for it.

You don't get it man.... the opposite of love isn't hate it's indifference.

George Lucas, the prequels and all the annoying adult Star Wars fans in the world haven't made me HATE Star Wars... they've made me completely indifferent to Star Wars.

There's no amount of terrible out there in the world that would undo my indifference. If they make something good then I'll watch and enjoy... but I'll never CARE about Star Wars the way I did when I was a kid.

No...I get that Doc. But no matter how jaded you may be...you always remember your first love. And yeah. Two things forced me into adulthood...the dissolution of KISS and the loss of the makeup, the realization that Gene and Paul were TWATS, etc...and Star Wars sucking the great cosmic egg. It's a defense mechanism to not care to the point you have perfected...me, I am eternally Charlie Brown to the football holding Lucy...forever trying to reclaim my lost childhood by praying that my heroes do me right. And no matter how much I die a little inside with every disappointment...I am not ready to give up. I envy and pity you at the same time sir.

Hah. Don't worry....... my relationship with the Kings is still perfectly childish.

Oh great pumpkin....

FYI, I LOVE 80's KISS!!! (But not very much of the Gene tracks)

Well that damn Clone Wars cartoon has already run rough shot all over EU cannon which in turn cheapens the whole property for those that bother with EU. Not smart, but Lucas and his cronies haven't ever been accused of being passionate about the integrity of any SW property. I don't imagine the Disney execs will want to handcuff themselves to anything that the majority have people have no clue about. The shame in all of it is that quite a few (certainly not all) of the EU stories are just fantastic.

Funny thing is...there was a comedy being developed by the Robot Chicken guys a while back that, about 4 months ago, disappeared off the radar. So I have to suppose that this deal was being worked for a while. I wonder what the fate of that show ultimately will be. I only care because I LOVE the RC guys.

I feel similarly. I'm not necessarily indifferent to Star Wars, but a further diminishing of the brand won't really bother me and I will continue to obsess over the original trilogy regardless of what comes next.

Much like my feelings for Robocop will never be diminished by the horrible sequels or hopefully cool reboot. I will always love Robocop no matter what.

Lucasfilm Hire Empire Strikes Back Scribe Lawrence Kasdan For New Star Wars – UPDATED | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Also sought after, according to the same report, is Simon Kinberg, co-writer of some X-Men pictures, including the next one, and such mid-rung genre fare as Mr. And Mrs. Smith.
The Hollywood Reporter say that the deals have been locked and that Kasdan and Kinberg are now on board. What isn’t set, just yet, is which of them will write which episode. They will both also receive producing credits – and presumably do some producing work. Officially speaking.

Fincher would bring a long time ago into this era of film very well indeed, but I think Favreau would be a great choice for VII. I would think the fanboy in him would bring a better overall product to the screen/market.

Makeup Legend Rick Baker Wants To Work On 'Star Wars Episode 7'; Ewan McGregor Open To Return | Geeks of Doom

Hey Disney...make this happen. If nothing else, please return to a more practical route and lose some of the crappy cgi.
I would love love love that. I understand that CGI is probably a faster way to get it done, but I have to imagine cost isn't the issue considering all the people they're bringing on board for this. It sure seems that they're trying really hard to get this off on the right foot.
