PJ Harvey is God
Just wondering what the movie would have been like had Guillermo del Toro accepted...
It'd have Ron Perlman in it.
Just wondering what the movie would have been like had Guillermo del Toro accepted...
You say that like its a bad thing
It's not his thing anymore. And I'm sure he's got other s#!t to do than block out 5 minutes to watch some dude's trailer.
And even if he did, why would he wanna go into it on the record?
I dunno...I just think purely for the sake of good will he could be a little more magnanimous. He just seems almost cruel towards what is essentially his legacy. What's the harm in some innocuous well wishing instead of going all...
This is just my theory, but I believe Lucas dumps on the entire series as way to justify why the prequels came out the way they did. If he never cared then you can't label him as being an awful director. That's what I believe his logic is.
Also I think in his mind George was inspiring to be the next Kubrick or Truffaut, but instead he became one the biggest mainstream popcorn directors out there. I feel like Lucas holds a great a angst that he never became a legit arthose director like many of his peers did.

He didn't become the director like many of his peers because he simply wasn't that good at it. I still maintain that was the major reason the prequels failed.

his biggest problem was that his emphasis was always on the effects shots and not the actors themselves
During a Q&A at Variety‘s Dealmakers Breakfast, Iger revealed that Walt Disney Imagineering was developing Star Wars rides, but that he had them stop working because he was concerned that park guests would be disappointed if the attractions didn’t include elements from the latest films. Iger further explained:
“We couldn’t tell them what was new … I slowed it all down so what we come forward with will have a blend of the past, present and maybe the future. Now we have a sense of what’s in ‘Star Wars 8,’ and what some of the standalone films will have in them.”
It’s a smart move. Sure, it’d be great to open some new rides ASAP, benefit from the Episode VII hype and draw in a crowd, but theme park attractions aren’t just cash grabs. Odds are, they’ll be operating for years and years, so they’ve got to impress.
Abrams is likely feeling the pressure to ensure the movie itself meets fans’ standards, but that doesn’t stop Iger from repeatedly conveying to Abrams that there’s so much more at stake than just one film:
“I keep telling J.J. Abrams this is a $4 billion movie. We need to treat this very special. It’s an unbelievable privilege and unbelievable responsibility to take a jewel and treat it in a way that is respectful of its past but brings it into the future.”
Iger also touched on Abrams’ preference for physical sets and props over CG visuals in the film:
“That will give the film a look that will be extremely respectful of the look George (Lucas) created in the ’70s and will play well with ardent ‘Star Wars’ fans and play well with audiences today.”

Well, even when GL directed the first SW movie (Ep.4) he had that "Good enough. That's a take!" approach. He'd always just go back to editing to fix any problems. Because the prequels were far heavier in effects the effects themselves got the blame. It really was just his (poor) style of directing.

I know everyone gets all 'Han Solo' and I was in the room when Ford actually stopped into Comicon, but for my money, if I get into Hall H again on the inevitable Star Wars day...I will squee a little if Hamill shows up. Dude has been nothing but a good guy and a complete genre monster since the original trilogy. And Corvette Summer is highly underrated(not really...but that car is/was badass).
