The Star Wars thread

What is this lootcrate you speak of? If it's another way to spend money on geek things, that can't be good. LOL.

PS: spoil me. :)

So installments in the main trilogy will arrive every other year, with spinoffs filling in during the off years. The top-secret standalone movie directed by Gareth Edwards is currently casting and will hit theaters on December 16, 2016. Johnson's Episode VIII follows the year after, Josh Trank's even more top-secret spinoff hits in 2018, then the main trilogy wraps up with Episode IX in 2019.

So, five Star Wars movies over the next five years. I can dig it.

Exclusive: J.J. Abrams Talks STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS and That New Lightsaber
http://collider.com/star-wars-the-force-awakens-jj-abrams-interview/

These 2 quotes make me very happy:

“I feel like the beauty of this age of filmmaking is that there are more tools at your disposal, but it doesn’t mean that any of these new tools are automatically the right tools. And there are a lot of situations where we went very much old school and in fact used CG more to remove things than to add things.”

and

“There are obviously an enormous amount of CG effects in the film, and I can’t wait for you to see the combination. But it was very important that we build as many sets as we could and that the film have a tangible, sort of authentic quality that you believed that these things were actually happening in a real space with real sunlight, if it was an exterior scene, or if we could build a big portion of a scene and not have anything be blue screen, do it where we could. It was a very important piece of work.”

CGI is completely out of control now. It lacks so much including depth & scale. IMHO the last movie that used CGI well was Prometheus. Use it for props and stuff, not characters.

Just say no to Jar Jar and random Jaba placements!

I'm confident that episode 7 won't be any where near as bad as the prequels, but I'm not completely sold that it will be as good as the originals. The Hobbit films have a lot of practical effects, and I wouldn't say there are ton of people out there who love those films.

My main concern with Abrams is his overreliance with fan service. It's what ruined the last Ster Trek film he did, and so far everything I have been hearing about episode 7 sounds like it's nothing but fan service. It literally sounds like the entire film will be spent reminiscing, or visting places from episode 4. Also the Millennium Falcon looks super CG and fake in the trailer, so booooo Abrams for that artistic choice. Like seriously, isn't the Mellennium Falcon like 50 years older from the last time we saw it? Why does it look like it just came off the showroom floor of a PS4 game?

Anyways, I'm much more looking foward to the Rian Johnson sequels. I feel RJ is just the right person to take this franchise into new and interesting directions.

As someone who waited at the LCS yesterday for 15 mins as people actually bought a SW title for once (when the Dark Horse titles were the best non-movie fiction, ever!), Disney/Marvel...PLEASE stop with these 1990 level of variant covers.

Abysmal way to make money, but people kept digging looking for that special Vader cover that needed almost 200 regular covers to be bought. Which my store could never buy.

Stop with these moronic covers! Can you instead print a $4.99 issue on paper that doesn't curl as you barely open the book to read it?
