The Star Wars thread

I think this movie is really going to hinge on if it's a compelling original story, or an unoriginal retread of A New Hope with elements of Empire. Regardless of Luke is bad or good, if the movie is compelling up until that point than we will eat up the reveal. If the movie is lousy or if it's repeating things we've seen in past Star Wars films, the reveal will come off as laughable. As long as Luke doesn't utter the words "I am your father" at any point, we should be good.

True. But the reveal is still massive. It can make a mediocre movie great or terrible.

Less than a month before the new release and this thread is on page 3.

For shame.

This article plays devils advocate pretty well. I agree with several points, but one I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO tired of hearing (and it's not even related to Star Wars).

However, while Abrams is an accomplished director, he has also had some trouble, especially in regards to hype. The ending of Lost was considered by many to be a massive disappointment, especially because it did not answer many of the series’ increasingly complex questions.

WTF?!?!? I know this is a common trope, but it answered basically every one of them. Are there still people confused about this? If so, ask away. I'll answer it. Also, JJ wasn't involved in Lost after the first season other than as a name. He didn't do anything with the writing at the end of the series.

Anyway, for more:

Jimmy Kimmel was fun tonight but besides a 10 second clip there wasn't much else.

Small request here..

We're all going to be doing everything we can do to avoid spoilers. Some large, some small. Whatever. I know you put spoiler warning at the top of the post, but can we try not to paste/type any of them in the posts? Just leave the links? The person who replies after a post that lists something runs the chance of seeing it even after you typed it out. It also makes it easy to accidentally see it even if you try to scroll past it.

Not a big deal on your post specifically, but wanting to cut these off as much as possible so we can still jump in and speculate without fear of something being ruined.

First world problems.

How bout we all just edit any even marginal spoilers out of the link titles before posting. That way the description is still relatively intact and nobody has to decide whether to click on a blind link.
