The Star Wars thread

For what it's worth, read quite a few very good reviews about Solo after last nights premiere. Acting better than expected with Glover being a standout.

Solo = 2 thumbs up! Saw it in IMAX which was unnecessary due to it not being modified for it. 3D was OK but not great.

Saw it last night as well, EPX (large format) and it was fantastic. Really did a great job filling in some holes/connecting the dots and as a fan of the Expanded Universe (TV shows/Books/Comics), the one "surprise" character was awesome and completely unexpected. Very surprised how much I enjoyed it.

Would it be a good idea to maybe start a new thread (All Things: Star Wars spoilers?) so people can talk about various Star Wars related movies with spoilers and people who have not seen the latest movie can roam this thread without spoilers or hints in the movie?

Nope. It'll be popular for the initial conversation...and then back paged.

spoilers

I enjoyed it. Was surprisingly likeable overall. Woody Harrelson helped carry it. Glover was ok...a little showy though. I bought Eisenreich as Solo, but Lando felt more like an impersonation than character. The movie is way too long by 30 minutes at least. People griped about Ron Howard, but it deserves to be said that maybe Star Wars movies don't NEED a guy with vision. This movie benefited from Howard's journeyman touch. Sometimes it's better to step out of the way and just shoot the script. I certainly enjoyed this more than Rogue One, or the last Star Wars movie.

Well, if you have forgotten, this forum has been wiped clean a few times when the page count got too high. So yeah.

And then the old pages got removed, right?

Anyway, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I DID do this today.

Everything got removed. Are you just being obtuse, or intentionally trying to provoke me?
At the end of the day, I have No authority here. People are free to do what they want. So either do or don't, but I would appreciate you stop being the guy in the class who keeps rephrasing the same question and asking it over and over.

People are already calling Solo a bomb. And I am like, so it doesn't break a record, so it's a bomb?

But it seems that the Friday tally (at least by estimates) is less than what Justice League.

Dude. I DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU.

You just (again) happened to be the one to give an answer that made me say, "Wait a second...."

It just seems odd that the only way to deal with a large thread count in a forum is to delete the entire forum. It seems like there'd be a way to delete threads that didn't have a response for, say, 3 months or whatever.

So I saw it on Sunday. Nowhere near full theater, but then, it wasn't full when I saw Deadpool, either.

Anyway, I wasn't SUPER excited about it going in. I think part of the problem with this whole shebang is that, with movies coming out every year, no one really felt like they 'needed' this one. We all really knew enough about Han from his other 4 appearances to get a good idea of the guy. And it wasn't gonna be different enough to really stand out in any way.

That being said, it was enjoyable. Not a rip-roaring adventure or anything. It was just... nice. No big problems. Everyone in it was pretty good. Donald Glover as Lando was far and away my favorite part. L3 was different but still fell in line with my idea with droids (the longer you go without wiping them, the more personality they develop). I got Emilia Clark's perspective. Chewie was Chewie. And the kid did a decent enough job playing the legend.

Was it "Rogue One?" No. But, for me, neither are the "last trilogy" movies, either. But "Solo" fits in with those two okay.

If they're gonna keep pressing these out (seems like Boba Fett and probably Obi Wan are getting movies soon), it seems like there'll be diminishing returns. These movies don't have the advantage of being built from scratch or have the over-arching storyline or single visionary that the Marvel movies have had. Lacking that kind of direction, I'm not sold that the name alone is going to continue to carry them as far as they expected.

Unfortunately, I fell asleep somewhere in the middle of the movie. I regret buying the 3D version because it was very minimal but the regular showing was sold out. I thought it was a cool heist movie.
