The Star Wars thread

I feel like all this new Star Wars stuff would've been great if I was still in my 20s...

23 year old me: "New KOTOR movie?!!! **** YEAH!!"

37 year old me: "New KOTOR movie?... When will it end...?"

I think we should just settle on a remake for the PS4/ Xbone

I enjoyed it. Was surprisingly likeable overall. Woody Harrelson helped carry it. Glover was ok...a little showy though. I bought Eisenreich as Solo, but Lando felt more like an impersonation than character. The movie is way too long by 30 minutes at least. People griped about Ron Howard, but it deserves to be said that maybe Star Wars movies don't NEED a guy with vision. This movie benefited from Howard's journeyman touch. Sometimes it's better to step out of the way and just shoot the script. I certainly enjoyed this more than Rogue One, or the last Star Wars movie.

really? i think eisenreich did fine but i?m not keen on him. something about him annoys me but i can?t put my finger on it. it seems weird to say ?i don?t like his face?, but that?s part of it. i liked glover as lando way more.

i liked the movie a lot. actually surprised it didn?t do better, but ya... oversaturation and other movies being out...
if only people would get tired of disneyland so i can enjoy a couple uncrowded off season days like i used to. :Tongue_anim:

Unfortunately, I fell asleep somewhere in the middle of the movie. I regret buying the 3D version because it was very minimal but the regular showing was sold out. I thought it was a cool heist movie.

i thought 3D would be ehhh...
got XD though because it was the only showtime that worked. that wasn?t bad.

Yeah, saw it again today and I liked it even more. Yeah, Ehrenreich(got it wrong the first time, apologies) really captured the Han persona for me. And yes, he was not as world weary as Ford, which actually worked because he should have been more naive and cocky at that age. I just thought Glover really hit the Colt 45 ad Billy Dee a little too hard, bordering on parody. It was fine, but just a little too on the nose. Definitely my fave Star Wars since the initial trilogy. Time will be more kind. Just think that people stayed away because of all the tumult involved in the production. Shame really...

Ron Howard Says He Feels Bad About The ‘Star Wars’ Fan Reaction To ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’

He isn't to blame. His workmanlike, technically strong touch was exactly what the movie needed to save it from the false start. I blame the negative reaction to the box office and basically telling people to NOT go see this movie because it didn't live up to $$$$ expectations 3 days outta the gate.

"This movie didn't make a lot of money! Don't go see it!"

Weird but it's true. People are such sheep. I guess this is gonna be like Speed Racer in 10 years...

Disclaimer: I didn't watch Solo because I don't do the theater anymore. Also I'm too old for this ****, but you all knew that.

I didn't go see Solo because it didn't have Wonder Woman. mhihi: :manybeers:

Solo was also harmed by SW 7 and 8 not living up to expectations in terms of quality of the stories.

Well, "Speed Racer" was an overall bad movie. I mean, parts of it worked fairly well, but it was way loaded down by the parts that didn't. If the whole movie had been about the rally race, that coulda been fun.

The biggest problem with "Solo" was that it wasn't AMAZING on every tiny count. And, as the post above says, "Last Jedi," especially, wasn't exactly a huge home run story-wise.

That's just nuts. They need to be real careful about burnout.

Especially if the movies themselves aren't good to great. Part of the reason the Marvel movies work is that, like many Pixar movies, the expectation of quality is there and the studio mostly delivers.

The Star Wars franchise actually hasn't had that kind of high-level consistency recently. And while the recents are all steps up from the prequels, I am reminded of Eddie Murphy's saltine cracker bit in "Raw."

I guess they are doubling down.

Dunno. The thing with the Marvel Shared universe, aside from the obvious fact that it was meticulously planned, is that it consists of tons of characters, and decades worth of storylines that they can draw upon and riff off. Star Wars "main story" was pretty much told, in my opinion in the original trilogy. It's not to say that this is like The Terminator, which does a create a world, but was basically a specific story that was told in the first two movies and everything else has just gone on changing the story to fit more movies and milking it. Star Wars on the other hand, created a vast world in which a lot of different stories that don't involve the main characters from the first three could be told. The extended universe showed that, which is now not canon anymore, but still, that can serve as an illustration that it can be done.

The thing is they don't need to do release these films so quickly like the Marvel films just because it's worked with that universe. They just need a longer gestation period to figure out a lot of things out. I mean a like Boba Fett. No, I really like Boba Fett, but do we really need a solo film for him and in the next few years? In order for all these movies to work they need to see how they are going to expand beyond the lets go back and do an Early Years Film of "Insert character from the first trilogy." Rogue One, which might be the best of the new films, was somewhat of a let's look behind Grand Moff Tarkin's story before A New Hope.

Dunno, then again, a solo Salacious B. Crumb movie could be good. mhihi:

Still, not that I won't be interested to see what they come up with, but I am a total Star Wars Apologist, haha. The funny thing is not that I have defended The Phantom Menace is that I have done it while stone cold sober, lol. :hockey2:

This "fan made" Last Jedi remake needs to stop. Star Wars fans are getting to the point where I don't want to be associated with them anymore. wtf people...
