The Trade Deadline Thread

I don’t know if it’s lack of talent. To me it’s more about just lack of production. Each of Thomas, Helenius, Chromiak and Pinelli were 2nd round picks who just haven’t produced much of anything at the AHL level. Tyler Madden was a guy who lit up Hockey East at 20 years old and big things were expected at the AHL level and beyond. He’s struggled to hit 20 goals.

All of these guys are very talented but they just don’t produce much.

Then there’s Fagemo. Another 2nd rounder. He’s actually very productive but no real NHL future.

Next season Koehn Ziemmer and Jack Hughes should add some more talent to the Reign roster but Blake definitely needs to do something about the blue line corps.
What you’d really like to see is both Helenius and Andre Lee eventually getting inserted onto the roster and having an impact, the way Dwight king and Jordan Nolan came in and added size back in the cup days. That would give Birdman his big strapping bodies, provided those kids play to their size

All I know is last year we made a deadline deal for a goalie and uhh I'd have played the other guy.

It's looking like VA & Roy may be our "trade deadline" deal. Instead of dealing away another prospect, pick, or both for rentals ... we retain both these guys and risk losing them at the end of the season. I'm okay with this, even tho Doughty may not ....
Then bring in a goalie next summer, and give our young guys a shot.

If Drew Doughty has any complaints, I’ll kindly direct his ass right back to his cap hit, and tell him to play like a f***ing champion, because he’s getting paid like one.

I wonder how much Blake could have received in return for Kaliyev if he had traded Arthur last summer. Don't like seeing useful assets depreciate so markedly. Right now, he is at best a throw-in in a larger trade package.

Kaliyev may well end up on the waiver wire. Never was a fan of his game.

And that basically is my issue w bowlby. Asset mgmt. I get that we need prospects to step up, however the prospects are stewing too long and either not sticking or losing value.

Was worried gonna lose Spence, but based on clarkes last 2 gms, it may be roy being the odd man out for next yr.

When Clarke started playing with Gavrikov, my first thought was that Matt is going to be traded at the deadline. In the first 24 games, Englund-Spence was a very serviceable 3rd pairing.

Agree. Hence Roy being odd man out. Prob cheaper to find a stay at hm next yr as a 7th d.

And unless Laff can have a strong soph season. Losing arvy gonna hurt. JAD prob won't be resigned. Like lizzotes hustle, but Turc at a min needs to stay up. Maybe he can fill arvys shoes next yr and then see what Thomas, Madden fagemo etc can bring. Fagemo is on borrowed time as it does not appear that his cup of coffee was all that inspiring.

Good question. He was out of the lineup a lot late last year and in the PO. So, not much different than this year. He played more late last year, but made more mistakes when he played. His value was pretty high first of December 2022, then he was never the same IMO.

Problem is, if we lose both Roy and Arvy then we lose two players on the team who have a degree of edge to their game (which is lacking on this team already).

Totally agree that the Kings need to keep Turcotte up with the Kings. I really think he would pair nicely with Arvy, provided both are still around next season.

Yeah, had similar thoughts. Or, at the very least testing Clarke up in the NHL to really see if he is good to go, or if he needs more time in the AHL. Playing every other game was not going to work. He either needed to play, or go back to AHL IMO.

Would hate to lose Roy or Arvy. Roy is a solid D, and Arvy is fun to watch...hopefully he can stay healthy.

Is it Roy's cap hit that has him on the potential trade list?

He is UFA and Blake cannot afford to pay him next year. So, looking at losing him for nothing. If he can be moved with other parts and be replaced with a decent LHD. I think that would be a win trade for the Kings right now. Not sure Clarke is ready though. He needs to keep playing and learn the game a the NHL level.

We don’t need a LD. We’ve got another RD that can play 3rd pairing minutes.

Gonna have to live with the adventurous Clarke in the 2nd pairing it seems.

I know that, but it seems the Kings are not willing to play our current right handers on their off side. I hope Clarke can learn and grow from these games.

The shuffle is set whereby he’s playing 3rd line minutes with Gavrikov, and England with Roy. The shuffle is working, for now.

He’ll have to grow into 2nd line minutes next season.
