The Trade Deadline Thread

At this point, I honestly don't see anyone getting traded. Team is playing well enough and will have to get Kempe, Mikey, Arvy and Grundstrom into the lineup by month end which will require waivers or send down to AHL for a handful of players.

Reports are that Kaliyev has asked for a trade

He is not playing now, is an RFA at the end of the season and we are about get three forwards back

Getting draft pick back as a return would be fine with me.
Agreed, we are already missing three in this draft

I am thinking value would be a 3rd + a conditional 3rd or 2nd in case he finds his game on the next team. Either a games played or points condition

If Kaliyev could pull a second that would be a neat bit of salesmanship. Especially if Blake decides to put the first into play (which I can't see a scenario that makes sense). I will absolutely lose it though if the play is for 4th line size while still keeping Lizotte on the team.

There’s more value in taking another team’s young change of scenery player.

The Rangers got a #60 overall pick for Lias Andersson (#7 overall) just three years after he was drafted.

Speaking of the Rangers I’d love to take Kaapo Kakko off their hands. He’s already 23 and probably won’t crack 10 goals this season. He just hasn’t worked out in New York but his size and game style seem like a fit for our system.

Agreed, if we could get Kaapo that would be a very nice addition. I think NYR would be foolish to give him up, though, given how low his value is and how skilled her truly is. He's seemed ready for a breakout for awhile now, just never does so.

Crazy to think Johnny B is outscoring him this season.

Thus the hard decisions for BLuc. Dont profess to know how to evaluate prospects/talent, but again from an optics perspective should have seen this coming with the plethora of fwds. Turcotte, Grundy & Kaliyev. That said, I understand that happens and as mentioned, Lias was a 7th pick in the 1st, but isnt that what the GM and staff need to really focus on instead of as another pointed out...d prospects ying on the vine.

Amadio doing well in Vegas also.

A new wrinkle that will need to be considered is that Jacob Moverare is now waiver eligible. I fully believe he would be claimed should Blake try to send him down. So he either has to stay on the roster or get traded.

Moverare is way better as a third pairing defender than Clarke or Englund, but he obviously does not bring the upside that either of those two possess. That said, I really like Moverares defensive game. It’s a tough trade off.

Kakko is kinda like the European version of our very own Alex Laferriere, isn’t he?

Not really. Laf is a north south counter-attacking speedy forward. Kakko as a pro is actually a bit heavy footed. Definitely a step slower than most draft scouting reports projected him to be. His game works best in tight spaces with the puck on his stick. He almost reminds me of a young Alex Frolov.

If you put Kakko in a system that’s focused on board play, puck possession and taking advantage of his size and strength it could unlock whatever potential he has left inside of game. Definitely worth taking a flier on if the price isn’t too steep.

I think he's staying. He's one of our stronger LD guys in the pipeline. JAD may be the guy that goes on waivers first.

I would disagree. Moverare showed me nothing at the Devils game that I went to. He seemed easy to push around and off the play most of the time. Last year he was so good as a callup-- shades of when #55 Schultz came in during the 2014 Cup run and logged lots of effective minutes as the #8 or so defenseman in the org-- but this year he seems off the play.
Englund brings much, much needed toughness and Clarke brings the high ceiling. I have not seen anything from Moverare this year. Last year, very steady and great value for the salary.

Last year he showed good positioning and was a strong passer. I haven’t noticed much good or bad from him this go-around. Wish he’d hit more but doesn’t seem to be in his dna. With a guy his size I always want to see a long stick. I am forever pining for someone to play like Willie Mitchell.

yeah but then you live in florida

Eh, Florida is a pretty awesome spot to spend hockey season (i.e., not summer) for the über rich. You can go wherever you want in the summer when the weather turns miserable. They all live in mansions or high rises on the water. The single guys are absolutely crushing it. Huge tax benefits. Beautiful coastline, awesome nightlife and you are absolutely insulated from all of the things that give Florida a bad image.
