The Trade Deadline Thread

Moverare signed extension.

The
@LAKings
have signed defenseman Jacob Moverare to a two-year contract worth an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000 through the 2025-26 season.

A little protection from the waiver wire perhaps?

Not necessarily. That low of a cap hit may make him even more attractive to a team that wants to claim him. Low risk, decent reward.

It does not say 2 way contract, which is what I think he is on now. 2 year one way contracts will not be picked up by playoff teams looking for a cheap rental. May deter some, but ?????

cup is ours! i knew a big move was in the works

i find it interesting that 775k is more than the nhl "MINIMUM WAGE", though still less than the 950k rookie entry salary

You can tell who the "all in" teams are. It's now or never for the likes of Colorado, Edmonton and Vegas. They're going to meet each other in the playoffs ... it's like a cold war arms race.

What makes you think the Kings should not be, or are not an "all in" team? Kings made an aggressive move to get PLD. At the time, and early in this season they claimed the move was made to help this team not just get past the first round, but to make a deep run.

Well, how do you think this team stacks up against Dallas, Vegas, Avs, Edmonton, even Vancouver. All these teams have made good moves this deadline. At this point I do not see the Kings getting out of the first round yet again. With all the assets used and the cap mess that the PLD trade brought this organEYEzation, losing in the 1st round would be an EPIC failure. If that happens Blake and company should all lose their jobs.

On top of that, the two players taking up large chunks of cap space are nearing the end of their careers. One of which is signed for 2 more years after this one, the other 3 years. These players are not getting any younger and this team was built around THEM to make another cup run. There is no time to wait for next year, or the year after. If the Kings want to do some damage, they need to improve the team.

It is absolutely fine for fans to be in awe of our competitors when they make a trade and acquire a LHD (arguably better than any on this team) for a measly 1.25mm in cap space. That player sure would have helped this team. Englund will be a liability in the playoffs. You do realize, that in the last game against Edmonton Englund was on the ice for something like 13 or 14 zone starts. Only ONE of those was in the defensive zone and most of them were in the offensive zone.

Like it or not, this team is, or should be "all in" right now. They need to improve their LHD and add some bulk on the 4th line. Otherwise, might as well sell off some assets and go at it with a gusto (and ammo) next year.

The problem with all of this is Blake has this team with no cap space, and few assets (pics and prospects). Thanks Blake.

Very well said.

At all of the exit interviews last season, the common rhetoric was "we have to get past the 1st round next year and anything else is unacceptable." I would then ask back "what is the ramification if they dont?" For sure I would think Flake and Luc are casualties. Beyond that, not sure what that definition would entail.

Flake made it clear when the PLD deal was done that he was "all in." Sacrificing a quality d-man, 2 former first round picks, and another guy who spent the better part of the past 2 seasons on the Kings' top line in order to acquire him.

/me drags out his soap box, and clambers on up.

Best thing that’s come about since Hiller was promoted has been the increase in hitting.

We need more size. You win in the playoffs by hitting, winning battles in the corners and along the half wall. Problem is, this becomes a physics problem when you have a 5’10” 180 Lbs forward going up against a 6’3” 225 Lbs Defenseman.

And those saying that the Oilers are all about speed haven’t seen the last 2 playoffs. They thumped us 2 years ago (We had multiple shoulder separations in that series) and won the physical battles. Then, Vegas ground and pound them into submission with the same playbook and a handful of the same players that were in our organization in 2014 to do exactly that.

Oilers loading up with Physical, Bottom 6 players is a response to Vegas doing that last year.

The answer to your question is given in your following sentence, we made an aggressive move to get Roenick 2.0 for a lot of money for a long time.

Someone posted not too long ago that Roenick's numbers were better at a certain point in games played but hey.
