The Trade Deadline Thread

Yep, the rumor it was the Kings and PLD came from some butthead on Twitter that just posts nonsense stuff. Could not be further from a reliable source.
Yeah there’s no way that was true. There has been no evidence that Sweeney recently hit his head, has been on a bender, or damaged himself in any way that would affect his judgment to that degree.

I say bull sh*t on a the rumored trade for Ullmark. First of all, Talbot's numbers are better. Second, Boston would want a roster player and why would Blake make the team worse for a worse goalie. League fans are praising Quick for being great for the Rangers yet Talbots Sv% and GAA are identical. 3rd, if Ullmark nixed a trade that would have been known long before the deadline.
There is that and the fact that a Goalie was not towards the top of the Kings's needs list.

I don't know how we would have fit him in but realistically we need our own disturber and Maroon checks that box and is a proven winner. He's exactly what we've lacked the last 2 playoff rounds against Edmonton as they bullied us and I don't mean in a fighting way, he'd essentially do what Perry does for the 50 teams he's played for.

Agree! I understand that we didn’t get a player like Hanifin or Guentzel!

But that we didn’t even got a mean S.O.B to play on the fourth line when needed, that is what I’m most disappointed about! Because we will need it when the Perrys and Kanes are starting doing what they do…

A player like O’Brien from Arizona wouldn’t have cost much (low round pick) and they often have a very low salary. And not even that could we get…

Hmmm. Why did Winnipeg need another scoring RW after they fleeced Blake out of Vilardi last summer? Oh wait, GV is still out. But of course they Got AI and RK as well. Iafallo's production is the equal to offensive superstar Matt Roy. Kupari? He has 1 whole point this year. This is not defending the trade at all but pointing out it may not be anywhere as bad as everyone thinks.

Listen to THIS GUY. He talks sense!

O’Brien is a Hobbit.

I mean a 6th rd pick is doable and a 4th line of Grundstrom/Lizotte/Maroon with maybe Lewis subbing in for Grundstrom if the opponent is fast if needed is a great 4th line. Playoff hockey as you know is tough and not in a fighting way so a guy like Maroon is literally made for it but realistically with Kempe,Arvy,Grundstrom and Anderson coming back financially it was probably 95% impossible to do as it looks like Minnesota didn't want a player back like say a Kaliyev....

I think no trade is better than a bad trade. But I’m a little bit disappointed we didn’t get anyone at all. It’s too bad Blake didn’t want to cheat like Vegas did, ERRRRR, have all our injured guys be out for the entire regular season but miraculously get healthy for game 1 of the playoffs.

I mean I think I'm pretty realistic in terms of getting what our cap with the injured 4 players coming back soon allows us and to me Maroon was the perfect semi affordable choice given his track record and whoever we play I believe once again will bully us as especially in the bottom 6 we are somewhat smallish outside of PLD who can be rough when motivated. If you remember the one series against Tampa while with Columbus he was a beast and played with an edge not seen since so #80 is capable of being that agitator for us if he's into it that week!

Should’ve started a rumor that PLD was being traded for three better letters.

We need a sharp player, something like ABC (difficult I admit) or 4KHD (can't sit farther than 10 feet away or you cant tell a difference tho).

It looks like the team flipped the playoff switch after the two night debacle in Alberta. The game on 2/29 in Vancouver through the game vs. the Sens have all had a more physical and faster pace than the vast majority of games this season.

I see a team focused on securing a playoff spot and more eagerly throwing their bodies around to make the tough plays tougher on their opponents.

Byfield, PLD and Fiala in particular are using their size in impactful ways. Getting Grundstrom and Kempe back should give all four lines physicality that will be needed for any sort of playoff run. A healthy Mikey Anderson will also help add some grit to the blue line. He rarely lays big hits but when he’s on his game he makes life hell for opposing forwards.

My preference would’ve been for Blake to pick up a big Center for the 4th line but I guess that deal wasn’t out there.

I don't know where the PLD rumor came from, but the Ulmark rumor came from Frank Seravalli, who is one of the most plugged in reporters out there. TSN also discussed the trade in a segment, saying the deal was all but done and fell apart at the last second.

Friedman said recently it is believed the Kings approached Nashville about Saros last trade deadline.

It makes sense. They need a long-term solution in net and Talbot and Rittich ain't it. And whatever Talbot's numbers are this season, I'd still rather have last season's Vezina winner going into the playoffs. Talbot fell apart earlier this season, who's to say he won't again?
