Trade Vilardi and Durzi

Also, I am extremely frustrated every time I watch Quinton Byfield play. The kid clearly has some extreme skill, and incredible physical tools. Alas, it just looks like he’s running around on the ice aimlessly, or running himself into corners. Ugh..

In a Vilardi Durzi thread you’re calling out Byfield? There are plenty of other players to call out. He’s twenty years old!!! It’s that simple. This isn’t frikking basketball where teenagers break into the pro leagues with regularity because you can make a three pointer. That’s why I love hockey…. It’s hard and you need multiple skills. He’s not going to be generational but he going to be an impactful player if allowed to mature without undue pressure.

Serious question from someone not crapping on QB at all. I'm very patient for this kid. BUT, if he's not generational or at least very special/unique, shouldn't we have drafted Stuzle?

St?zles come along more often than Byfields do, and with Kopi aging we need that big, fast, capable center for the first line. The answer to your question is yes, but we already know that he's very special based on his physical characteristics and abilities. Running up to the draft everybody talked about the fact that he would be more of a project where St?tzle would be plug and play. It'll take time for him to come into his own, and when he does he's expected to be the more valuable of the two. I think the fact that he was #2 overall sets us up as fans to have certain expectations, but Blake's moves have been quite profound so far, so I wouldn't write him off just yet. We can trade for a dynamic scoring winger. It's hard to trade for a franchise center.

He is unique in his ceiling. That comes with risk. Watching him play you can see it, it's not like a round peg square hole situation. Stutzle honestly would not have looked as good as he does in Ottawa here. Remember it's not a straight transfer. This year though there has to be progression on Q's part.

Exactly, just think of the numbers Lafreniere could have put up his first two years in Ottawa or Anaheim instead of the Rangers. Conversely I think Stutzle would have done well in LA, but likely would be relegated to the 3rd line and just now be breaking full time into the league.

Watching this Kraken vs Ducks game and one thing is glaringly apparent. These teams young players have ‘IT’. Beniers, MacTavish, Zegras.. can we trade Byfield and Turcotte for any of the above? Oof..

Isn't this a Vilardi and Durzi post? Byfield has time. Yeah, drafting Turcotte over Zegras was a bummer. Vilardi is still a talent. I think giving him time to heal and learning to play wing will be a huge difference. With 11 and 24 there, 55 doesn't need to be rushed. I don't see a problem with the kid. He's playing where he should be playing. That doesn't mean it wont change this year, but again.... as far as Vilardi and Durzi are concerned, I think they played extremely well except for 1 very bad Durzi 3 line pass.

Out of all your young players, Kaliyev is going to be the best one, and by a good margin.

This is my prediction.

Luc 2.0

Although Byfield looked good last night as well as Vilardi

And Kaliyev is in a perfect situation! He can play his game without the pressure that comes with being a very high draft pick and he's being eased in by McLellan, which is 100% the correct way to play him. He will get more and more ice time and all things points to him being capable of handling that!!

Yeah.. maybe like Durzi, for like Tanner Pearson, or Jeff Carter.
