TSN on Drew's Presser.

See above post. When I say “fit” I’m not only talking about fitting in the locker room. Fiala doesn’t fit with the Kings on the ice.
Gotcha.
Drew said selfish. Like you said he's not a great fit/ guys need adjusting to his game etc...
But, do you see him as selfish?
I'd say unique in his skill set, not selfish.

I see him as someone who wants to run up the score when the Kings have a 2 goal lead, rather than playing a safe and controlled game. He plays pond hockey no matter the score. He’s not a rookie anymore.

Fiala might be a nice guy but he is absolutely not a fit when it comes to the “structure” the Kings want to play with. Since day 1 he’s had difficulty finding chemistry with anyone and plays like a complete dumbass. He takes bad penalties every game and makes several dangerous passes or carry-ins each game. He is 100% one of the guys Doughty is talking about.
Since day one he has had success regardless of who or what line he plays in (which Todd calls out in the article I provided) - that would be impossible to do with a lack of chemistry. You really should read the article as it also addresses his passing and tendency to be able to make pass successfully where they should fail - with this also comes with passes that fail/turnovers.

But really - you say he doesn't fit and I get where you are coming from (he's not the typical Kings 2-way player) but the players and coach feel he fits with the team on the ice so I have to weigh their opinion with more weight than I would an outside observer.

Speaking about selfish - was it selfish for Doughty to sign a $11m / season contract knowing it would hamper the Kings ability to compete? I'm not saying it is, but seeking your opinion. Looking at sports in general, there is a reason Tom Brady was so successful, part of which was skill and part of which was signing below market value to ensure the team was able to bring in skill around him. Doughty signed realistically above market value during his deal, as has Kopitar - both of which are leaders of the team.

Fiala did not fit with Kopitar. And they tried for way too long.

As already mentioned, Fiala didn’t work well with Kopitar and Kempe last year. He also didn’t work well with PLD this year. He’s never found a line he could stick to and the only reason he’s with Danault is because Arvidsson is out and where else are you going to put him?

As for Doughty and Kopitar, I wanted them traded years ago. Doughty, in particular, whined about the rebuild and Blake listened to him after signing him to that ridiculous contract. Doughty has his own issues and I often criticize him for flapping his gums, but in this case, he’s right.

Who has "fit" with Kopiar though really - Brown, Iafallo and now Kempe and Byfield? I'm sure there are more but the list is pretty small.

I actually see Fiala to be similar to Kopitar in which they don't truly fit with most of their teammates, when put on a line with them, but always manage to produce despite who they are on a line with.

Gaborik and Williams too. But there have been more failures than successes throughout the years.
