Turcotte

Per Blakes comment of "Stay healthy" I'd say there's a decent chance that until his body fills out he may not be able to take the beating of NHL athletes. He might not be able to take it anyway considering this is the AHL his body can't handle with regularity. If there's a failure at all its in the evaluation staff to consider the possibility and rate it correctly.

True, but to be fair he has taken some pretty vicious, and dirty, hits while in the AHL that likely would have given any player a concussion. Other injuries were due to his body not withstanding the rigor, though, so it's a combo of his body and unfortunate luck.

Went and checked out a game at the end of the season in Ontario. As much as Turcotte has the skill and game away from the puck to be able to play in the NHL, the guy just gets knocked all over the place. Plays a sort of reckless style. He's a very good player, but physically, he seems to have a ways to go.

I'll jump in:

According to Jon Rosen - Turcotte was Blake's choice (over his scout's recommendations) along with Tony Granato's influence from Wisconsin. SECOND - According from Luc - "If you watched that last tournament (Team USA Worlds...I think) Turcotte was by far the best player on the ice those last 3 games. Even better than Zegras..."

Was it a wiff? Maybe/ Trevor seems like a immature kid. Maybe players like Brown - Kopi - Dewy would have set him straight. Hot dog mentality. Players mature at different rates.

Jack Hughes - "FINALLY" according to Devil fans - has blossomed at 21.

I don't think we're looking for Jack Hughes level of production. But 1 NHL point would be a modest ask for a top-5 draft pick, right?

Turcotte looked great in some of the rookie camps. But as the saying goes "the best ability is availability" and it is challenging to make an impact sitting on the IR. I also didn't get the impression that Turcotte was immature or a hot dog (edit: I think you were talking about Zegras. I'd still rather have Zegras' production and attitude. Also not sure if wanting to make pretty plays is being a hot dog). Certainly his dad had that rep so I thought he went out of his way as a kid to offset that by putting in the hard work and having a high compete level to go along with his skills. Unfortunately his size/body doesn't seem to be a good match with his playing style; it makes me appreciate Mike Richards even more.

It happened, there is nothing anyone can do about it. You just have to move forward. Has there been a draft pick lately for the Kings that has panned out? Hopefully the next draft pick does.

I believe the general consensus coming into the draft had Turcotte ranked higher than Zegras, so I'm not sure how much stock into Blake going rogue. Most thought Turcotte wouldn't be left on the board by the time our pick arose, with many projecting we would draft Dach. Unfortunately no one could forsee the hard time he would have staying healthy...
