We should trade Carter George

No? What about Slukinsky or Rimpinen? One of them for sure if not 2. On one of the Kings podcasts someone said trade everyone except our goalie prospects. And that made no sense. There are at most 2 NHL roster spots available for goalies. Why would we hang on to 3 prospects? We should trade one of these guys for a top center prospect, which we don’t have & desperately need.

You might think let’s wait to see who makes it out of them. But you’re also seeing who doesn’t make it. And by then there’s no market for them. We should make a trade now while they all have potential.

And what if we pick the wrong guy? I don’t think we will because our system breeds good goalies. But if we do we can just keep drafting. 3 years ago we had no good goalie prospects. Then we drafted Slukinsky, George, & Rimpinen and we’re set.

Maybe I’m alone in thinking this but I think I’m right. I just go back to when we had all those right shot defenseman but no spots for them on the team. And all those assets we ended up pissing away. And I don’t want the same thing to happen with our goalies.

Also, I don’t know what Slukinsky’s status with team USA. But George & Rimpinen will probably be starting for their teams at the WJC’s. Imagine all 3 facing each other & possibly all medaling in the tournament.

I would not trade any of them just yet. Let them fight it out to become the #1 in LA, then you trade the one that didn’t win out.

Still too early.
There is one correct answer to this hypothetical as of now and it’s this one. Only way you trade one early is if Slukynsky is holding out in college and it appears he won’t sign an ELC.

The problem with waiting to see who emerges as the #1 goalie is that you’re also seeing who’s not a #1 goalie. And you’re not going to get as much as you can for them. Right now they’re all potentially #1 goalies. Even if 2 or all 3 get to where they could be #1 goalies, you’re now in a situation where you have to make a trade & other teams know it. And they could low ball you. There’s also going to be the point where if you have all 3 & they’re all looking like #1’s, someone’s going to have to be sent to Ontario. Which means going on waivers where anyone can get them for free. Right now all of them have maximum value, especially if they all have great tournaments. But they lose value if everyone knows you have to trade them or lose them for nothing.

Following that philosophy, however, the Kings would have traded away Quick as a prospect and bet everything on Bernier. Goalies are way to erratic, in terms of projections and development, to trade away any of the prospects so soon. Additionally, unless a goalie is seen as a sure thing (such as Flowers) they tend not to hold much value as prospects.

As Birdman mentioned, there is also a lot of value in letting goalies compete with one another and battle it out. I was surmise that Quick wouldn't have progressed as rapidly without the obstacle known as Bernier to overcome.

Okay now this speaks my language so I will qualify that I am exactly on board with this for skaters but not for goalies. Good explanation per @DryKing.

Seeing who can emerge as a starter out of 2 goalies (maybe even 3 but lets be real it’s George or Slukynksy not Rimpanen) is much different than literally not trading any of 10 forward prospects while waiting to see what they might bring to the NHL.

Turcotte Thomas Fagemo Kaliyev Lee Helenius Madden JAD Pinelli Chromiak

Turcotte and Helenius are here and the coach doesn’t trust them to play meaningful minutes.

At least Kupari was finally dealt. Yay.

I think that's a bad idea. Why? Goalie prospect needs to have a potential superstar pedigree or simply really good performance in juniors/NCAA/wherever to have significant trade value.

None of them has any of that as of this moment. It's too early. If all three were excelling in their own league, you might have a point as teams would be on notice.

The Kings made some quite silly moves because their goalie prospect pool was empty and they were desperate for solution on goal. Cal extension, trading Quick away for Korpisalo...no need to repeat the mistake.

I get your point, but those goalies have proved nothing to date. They do not have much value. If you recall, Askaraov got a good return because the Preds were dangling Saros. They were acting like Askarov was the proven replacement and the goalie of the future. This propped up Askarov's value and the Preds pivoted and sold high. The Sharks were kind of high to pay that much for an unproven goalie. It does not happen often. I think the best thing to do is wait and see.
