Welcome to play by play Nic!

I know it’s obvious that the majority of LGK’ers prefer Nickson over Faust, but to those who do.. aside from feelings of nostalgia, what specifically do you prefer about Nickson, or what specifically did you dislike about Faust?

I don't have a ton of nostalgia for Nick - I have heard relatively few of his radio calls in my time. I'm obviously very well aware of his presence however, and already like his play by play more.

Details aside, I just don't care for Faust's calls. Nick's just more signal, less noise overall. More professional. Works much better with Jim.

He just calls the game....doesn't use cutesy little phrases, doesn't get overly dramatic about plays that turn out to be nothing, his voice is very pleasant, and, when I'm listening on the radio, I can picture everything that is happening because he seamlessly tells us which side the play is on, which circle, etc. And yet he can subtly imply his opinion about a play with just the tone of his voice. And, most importantly, his voice/call doesn't overpower the action on the screen - it's like my brain is enhanced by his call, not torn apart between watching the play or listening to his play-by-play.

One, when no live tv, always listened to Nic and Daryl. Two, Nic does the play by play. Not a bunch of mindless babble to fill the space of calling the play. Until last season Faust seemed to have a lovefest with star players on other teams.

Now someone needs to tell Foxy to simmer down, and close his yap every now and then.

I love Jim but he was seriously a mess with Alex sometimes. Bob had a way of.. wrangling him back in which Alex I think instead riled him on a bit. I believe Nick will have the same skills as Bob in this department. Last season they'd go back to a penalty like 40 minutes ago and talk about the "non-call" or "bad call" well into the post game.. like move on with our lives please.

and now we dont have to listen to the Faust jinx anymore............
:mhihi:

Just brutal. I read Bob's book recently and there was a few pages on when he decided the jinx was real and actively tried to start avoiding it. I believe it was mostly in reference to Andy Murray's win total becoming #1 and a comment he made, then the Kings lost and it took like 1.5 seasons or something to get another win (lockout).

I am just as much of a Bob Miller fan as anyone here, but I think we all must admit (consciously or unconsciously) that Bob did slip a little the last few years of his broadcasting. Nick will be a pleasant change from Faust (who was growing on me). I think it is significant that the networks picked him up for the playoffs. If he was that terrible he wouldn't get that call

The fact that they even tried the Faust thing was always a mystery to me. When Bob retired the in house replacement seemed like a no brainer. I didn't hate Faust, but he never seemed to "click" with the organization, just always felt like an outsider. Everything feels back to normal now. And Nick's PBP is so straight, it helps keep Fox on the rails better.

Faust has a good voice. Sometimes - when he would do "national games" on cable - I never even noticed it was Faust.
That being said - He likes to take Jim Foxisms and use them over and over again:
"Right place, right time"
"Had inside position on him"
blah blah blah

I just noticed his new additions after Jim used a hockey term. It was like Alex said to himself: "Great phrase! I'm gonna start using that"

I always envisioned him with a note pad after Jim or any announcer he listened to said something and he wrote it down with a little "nice :)" next to it or something to be used later. Kinda like when a guitarist hears a good blues lick and copies it.. I suppose it's the same in the announcer game :D

I will say - Bob was so good that as a kid, for a good 5+ years, I really wanted to be a sportscaster. Listening to Bob was just as important as the game for me for a long while. It is hard to replace that.

Nick just knows the game better than Faust, plain and simple. I've been hoping Nick would take over.
