What are you reading? What was the last book you enjoyed?

a million little pieces...
while i was trying to strike up conversation with my boyfriend's mom about the book she asked if i read and of course my boyfriend answered, "Yeah, she reads a lot!"
so i was like, great. luckily, it's a very easy read.

Just read "On Writing" by Stephen King. it was a really fun novel to read. And it was sort of an autobiography by King, so an extra bonus if you're a fan of his work.

I wouldn't consider "On Writing" a novel. It is King's book on how he writes. It's a very good read for an aspiring writer, and it does have a lot of insight to his career.

Just finished Angels and Demons and started Da Vinci Code last night.

On tap:

The Last Templar
The Romanov Prophecy

Romanov Prophecy was ok. Too many writers are trying to hitch a ride on the Da Vinci Code train, but are not as successful. This one is enjoyable, as long as you don't try to take it too deep. Loved the Russian history aspect.

On book two of the Srthurian saga by Mary Stewart. Finished the Crystal Cave and an about 1/3 into the Hollow Hills. A different take on Merlin.

From the book jacket:

Barcelona, 1945 - Just after the war, a great world city lies in shadow, nursing its wounds, and a boy named Daniel awakes one day to find that he can no longer remember his mother's face. To console his only child, Daniel's widowed father, an antiquarian book dealer, initiates him into the secret of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books, a library tended by Barcelona's guild of rare-book dealers as a repository for books forgotten by the world, waiting for someone who will care about them again. Daniel's father coaxes him to choose a book from the spiraling labyrinth of shelves, one that, it is said, will have a special meaning for him. And Daniel so loves the book he selects, a novel called The Shadow of the Wind by one Julian Carax, that he sets out to find the rest of Carax's work. To his shock, he discovers that someone has been systematically destroying every copy of every book this author has written. In fact, he may have the last of Carax's books in existence. Before Daniel knows it, his seemingly innocent quest has opened a door into one of Barcelona's darkest secrets, an epic story of murder, magic, madness, and doomed love, and before long he realizes that if he doesn't find out the truth about Julian Carax, he and those closest to him will suffer horribly.

Up next... Inca Gold by Clive Cussler

Re-reading both "The Old Man and the Sea" by Hemingway and "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius. They're both even better the second time through.

I am just finishing this book, it is truly a horrific book on what the Japanese did in Nanking in the late '30s. The Japanese Imperial Army killed about 300,000 Chinese in an orgy of bloodshed and carnage: beheading contests, massive gang rapes, burning people alive ect ect. It rivals, if not passes what the Nazis did in terms of pure cruelity. This book of course outrages Japan, who has never accepted responsibility for any of it's actions in WWII and Japanese right-wing ultra nationalists have done every thing in thier power to "debunk" this book. But the author has answered every charge and challenge with overwhelming proof of what she has stated in this book. Sadly, the author commited suicide last year after battling depression and "inner demons", said to have been caused inpart by hear years of involvement researching the Rape of Nanking.

A entertaining history of the "hardcore" or "second wave" punk scene in the US. It is not perfect and is biased at times and is wrong about certain things but it still is entertaining. This book will probably appeal more to those who "were there" or into punk rock but it has some good stories and great pics that should interest any fan of music. For a guy like me it sort of bring back memories of when I was kid. I forgot what a tough, crazy, badass I was back in the day. ;)

Read Inca Gold by Clive Cussler. It was entertaining, but there was nothing particularly special about it. I liked the Inca angle, though.

Currently reading Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. I read about this book on Amazon.com a while ago, but I hadn't read it. Upon Hatter's recommendation, I picked it up. I'll tell anyone else, just as he told me, you have to work your way through the first 80 pages or so. What could have been written in one chapter is stretched out to 80 some odd pages due to the author going off on tangent after tangent that doesn't really add anything to the story. But, I've been told and have read that he has a reason for doing this. I guess I'll find out soon enough. I haven't been able to read too much lately, but I've finally gotten to the real story and, hopefully, the tedious reading at the beginning will have been worth it.
