What are you reading? What was the last book you enjoyed?

I have been wanting to re-read House of Leaves, but I already have enough nightmares as it is.

Doesn't Mark Z Danielewski have or is going to have a new book out?

I tried to read Only Revolutions, but couldn't get into it. :/

It's called the 50 year sword. More of a short story. I'm disappointed in his later works, but HoL is just about as good as you can get as a rookie author. I doubt he'll top it

Aftershock - Andrew Vachss

As always, an entertaining read but usually similar characters and story lines. I still learn something every time, and I'll look forward to his next book.

I needed something new to read, so I'll have to check out House of Leaves. Thanks for that.

ok please don't flame me for this but did anyone read the new Dan Brown book yet? I haven't and dammit I'm curious.

Yes, I read it a couple weeks ago. I don't look up all the paintings and references, so I don't get super into it. Langdon is back in Italy and following Dante's Divine Comedy this time around. I still prefer Angels & Demons over all of them, but I got through this book pretty quickly. I read for entertainment, not to get into the symbology, and I was entertained. The one thing that really bugged me was the detail in describing certain buildings and such. I appreciate the descriptions on an aesthetic level, but when the characters are in a hurry to figure things out, I don't know why paragraphs are spent describing the architecture of wherever, because somehow Langdon is focusing on it while he's running by.

Sounds like I'll enjoy it then. Going to wait for it to show up in my local HPB store. I usually enjoy his little architectural ramblings as an aside from the story.

Don't deprive me of the pleasure I get from the guilt of reading these books ;)

House Of Leaves takes a little work and requires some patience, but... holy ****, I still think about that book a lot. Wish I had more time so I could read it again.

I'm currently in the middle of that new Andrew Vachss book.

"... a little work and requires some patience" like a normal person or like that Foucault's Pendulum bull***** this thread inflicted upon me? lol. I'm still traumatized by that nonsense.

Like a normal person. I hate to potentially recommend something you'll dislike, but I can tell you with complete certainty that if I tried to have BoobyTrap read that book, I think she would divorce me. She does NOT have the patience for it.

Tsk, tsk, tsk, Jammer. I thought I taught you better. :P

And Adgy, I am sure some guys wish they could easily get their wives to divorce them simply by handing them a book. ;)

Do audio books count? Out would they fall under the "what are you listening to" category?

Yeah...why not. Audio books are books too with just a different delivery system. Please be sure to include who read it if it's cool and or pertinent.
