2022 Offseason Thread

Pronman has his ranking out here:

Los Angeles Kings rank No. 10 in NHL Pipeline Rankings for 2022

Nothing too surprising so it probably doesn't warrant its own thread.

Q is still our top prospect under 23 as of Sept 15, 2022. Arty Party still number 2, Clarke still number 3.

The quick sum up is here

The Kings have a very deep system with a lot of quality players I think that will play in the NHL. The top of their organization is led by 2020 No. 2 pick Quinton Byfield. Not all their top picks have developed as plan such as 2019 No. 5 pick Alex Turcotte

Key Graduates: Gabriel Vilardi, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Mikey Anderson, Lias Andersson

Key Additions: Jack Hughes

Key Subtractions: Brock Faber

2021 ranking: No. 5

2022 NHL Draft grade: B-

Turcotte was listed at number 4 but it's unclear if Pronman was aware of his being sent home from Rookie/Development camp for failing what appears to be his concussion baseline as referenced here:

Top prospects for Los Angeles Kings
Turcotte slowed by injuries; Spence has opportunity at defenseman

The relevant portion quoted as follows:
It's unknown if Turcotte (5-foot-11, 185 pounds) will be ready for training camp. The 21-year-old did not take part in on-ice activities at development camp in July because of two concussions sustained last season.

Still Pronman has him listed at number 4, up from 7 last year, although some of the players have since graduated that were ahead of him. Outside the organization NHL people are still high on Turcotte is the takeaway, even if their ceiling for him is now lower.

For players not in the lineup Clarke is number one, followed by Turcotte, Fagemo and depending how you want to categorize him Spence. After that he's got Kirasonov ranked which for me is the cut off for people he thinks has a shot at the roster this year since he's still contracted to the KHL.

There's not a lot of huge new information but it's a thorough article ahead of rookie camp coming up.

Here is something to brighten the offseason!

The Kings new ECHL affiliate is the Greenville Swamp Rabbits!

Check out the "Hop Shop" swag store. I love the logo!

We were there in Greenville for a tour stop last year, but they had very little inventory left.

But I plan to buy at least a t-shirt when the Kings logo is added!

What the heck is a Swamp Rabbit???

Kinda weird rankings, I wonder what the key driver is. Strange to see Kupari at 5th, Spence at 7th, and Toby all the way down at 9th - does Kirsanov really project to be better than him? Hard to believe as Toby made the jump to the NHL at such a young age.

Also Madden all the way down at 17th doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but I guess it's all just opinion in the end.

Well, Madden looks like a 2nd liner in the AHL, and he's not a great skater, so that does not bode well for translation to the NHL. Probably destined to be a scorer in the AHL, a la TJ Tynan. I also feel that both Spence and Durzi will end up being better players than most of our forward prospect crop. Spence in particular seems like a Jared Spurgeon type.

I still have hope for Turcotte, but I had forgotten that he was not allowed to partake in the development camp. Hopefully it's just a major precaution, giving his brain the maximum amount of time to heal before they get back at it.

One thing for sure is, Kaliyev needs to remember how to shoot the damn puck. I don't know if it's the fact he's got less time and space in the NHL, but he does not seem like he's able to pick the corners like he has in lower levels. Maybe it's a confidence thing, but seeing the goals he DID score this past season, his shot has no problem beating NHL goalies. Just so long as he stops lobbing them right into the crest of the goalie's jersey!

I thought Madden showed positive progression last season and still ends up making the transition to the NHL (probably not with the Kings), but he's definitely not a sure thing and his window is quickly closing so you may be right. I agree with you on Spence and he looks ready for the NHL, but still needs to gain some weight. He's going to be solid though.

I also noticed that about Kaliyev and attributed to his desire to play a complete game. Seems like he's not taking the time, when taking/lining up a shot, he would normally at lower levels due to needing to make a preemptive move after releasing the puck in order to keep up with the play (due to lack of speed). Hopefully we see a steady improvement this season.

As I understand, he failed the concussion protocol, so it wasn't just precautionary.

That's it exactly. He "hears footsteps" in football parlance and defensive players are on him much faster. Same reason Frk was rarely able to get that huge slapper off in the NHL - there's just less time to line up your shot. Hopefully Kaliyev can adjust.

LMAO that sounds both hilarious and painful!

So you're originally from SC? Or did your dad move there in later stages of life? I'm having trouble figuring out why SC out of all the damn states lol.

PS: were you not aware of bugs when living near a lake in a warm climate??

I'm from Los Angeles, joined the military, came back and it was too expensive to live in. Moved to Oregon, where wife's family is from - did that for 5 years. Oregon is cold and rain 392 days out of the year I'd wager, and after 5 years we both got really tired of it. My dad grew up in SC, and moved there recently from West Coast, and he kind of invited us out to stay until we found a house. A house twice the size of ours in Oregon at half the price and 100 more days of sun a year, and the fact our house in Oregon over doubled in value from weird housing market and actual renovations we did. So a lot of factors and time went into it but yeah, we are in a totally weird new hot ass place, lol.

We're a few miles off the lake - but right next to farm land. I had never really heard of: chiggers, cicadas, juro spiders (wtf), the biggest bees I've ever seen, wasps, termites, fire ants (I've stepped in 4 mounds and been covered a few times). Roaches have re-entered my life, though I know those evil bastards from LA. Oregon was too cold for any bugs really. It's been a big change. I miss my old house a bit but I suppose that's normal after 5 years. I'm in HOA now so I can't quite blast my music like I used to (sad), but I got some nice headphones lol. I never really noticed before but my wife and I seem to enjoy huge changes every 5 years or so, and it was time for a change :D

I'd never heard of Juro spiders but they look as big as the orb weavers in Texas, thankfully they seem just as harmless.

Very interesting story. Something you don't really hear much of in Slovenia, as the entire country is like 200 miles apart at the farthest points lol. Sure, some people move abroad but moving to a completely different climate thousands of miles apart is generally very rare.

Those critters...jeeesus...I want no part of that. :stop: But good luck anyways!

If it makes you feel any better, I know some people in Chicago who've never left their neighborhood......

Jesus, Jam. Now you're confirming xenophobia in the midwest to a person from another country. *smh* What's the next hot take? Cincinnati puts chili and cheese on pasta (which I just text yesterday to a friend of Brazilian descent when they said they were going to a wedding in that city this weekend.) ?

Omg theres a Grad student in my wife's lab (chemical engineering), Asian, who swears by putting a slice of American cheese on her Ramen noodles. It's basically an emulsifyer and makes the broth creamy. Her family is not on board with this. While I understand the concept I can't bring myself to do it. Someone is going to get rich off it one day.

Whew! Glad you knew I was being smarmy. That story does remind me of an off-the cuff comment by Jeremy Clarkson when dressing down Hammond for loving something American. He said: "they put cheese on absolutely everything, Hammond".

Your wife's chem student sounds like just the youth and diversity we need on this board. Ask them if they like the Kings. Right now it feels like we've got a lot of people who puked jagar bombs at the Forum Club after the Storr meltdown playoff game. But what we need is I put cheese on Ramen and watch the Kings on my phone that folds for no reason.

=)

I mean the Kings sent me an e-mail for "complimentary" two tickets in the 300s today for my birthday, then when I chose the game they tacked on $10.88 in fees. That was nice.
