2022 Offseason Thread

Whew! Glad you knew I was being smarmy. That story does remind me of an off-the cuff comment by Jeremy Clarkson when dressing down Hammond for loving something American. He said: "they put cheese on absolutely everything, Hammond".

Your wife's chem student sounds like just the youth and diversity we need on this board. Ask them if they like the Kings. Right now it feels like we've got a lot of people who puked jagar bombs at the Forum Club after the Storr meltdown playoff game. But what we need is I put cheese on Ramen and watch the Kings on my phone that folds for no reason.

=)
Hammond, you blithering idiot!

So that's why they call him "The Hammster"!

Perhaps, or the fact that he's 5'7" (with skates on, clearly) and Jezza is 6' 4"(hunched over). Welp referencing a show that's been off the air for a decade is not going to win over any new fans but, eff it: I love those guys. As much as Hammond loves Oliver.

Anyone else take advantage of the Birthday Seats offer from the Kings?

Was just able to purchase two 200 level seats on 22 November vs. the Rangers for $50 each. Seats in the 300s would've been free (except for the $7+ fee).

I am good with this. That game will sell out for sure.

I did it last year and it was pretty cool, ended up in the 200s behind Quick. Received a similar offer today for a survey response - 11/10 (Chicago) and 11/22 (NYR) were the two regular seasons games available, along with a few preseason games. Kinda bummed they didn't have a weekend game available.

Let’s not forget the boys live on with the Grand Tour on Amazon.

Still waiting to see those signing announcements for Anderson and Durzi. Where do you guys rank these two guys on the defensive depth chart from 1 to 6? I know Anderson slots in as a top pairing guy, but I hesitate to say that he’s our #2 behind Doughty. Instinctually I would say 3 and 4, but I’m not really sure that Anderson is all that close to Matt Roy, nor is Durzi as good as a healthy Sean Walker(at THIS stage in their careers). Maybe those fancy stat models made by guys like Dom L would reveal a clearer picture of player value for the entire defensive group? Although I’m not sure those models can properly take into effect the benefits of intangible stuff, like how well a guy like Doughty plays with a safety blanket that he -feels- good about, like he apparently does with Anderson.

Yeah that's a tough one. Roy definitely was our #2 , behind Doughty, last season and still appears to be more complete, allowing him to be more adaptable in terms of usage, at this point. Anderson, though, has continued to grow and towards the end of the season appeared to have a bit more impact on games. My guess is that the analytics look better on Roy, while Anderson has the intangibles. With Doughty back, though, I think we see Anderson as our #2 this season and he will be essential.

Durzi I view as 6th and Walker as 5th, but who really knows what to expect from Walker at this point. His style does line up better with the current roster, than it did when he went out on injury, though and he seems a bit more consistent with his decision making. If he is able to play the left side that makes him that much more valuable. Durzi I expect to take a step backwards this season and he focuses on the areas of need he was able to get away with last season due to injuries elsewhere on the roster. As he works to further round out his game, though, I expect to see him take a leap forward in the 2023-24 season. It's honestly crazy how much he grew last season, so he definitely may have some more surprises in store.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Spence pass up both Walker and Durzi by the end of this season, and hopefully we see Bjornfot make some big strides forward in order to be a regular come playoff time.

According to analytics, Anderson is the 8th-best shutdown defenseman in the NHL.

Stuetzle just got an 8 year, $66.8M contract. AAV $8.35M. Thoughts? Ottawa really hedging their bets that the 22 goal scorer will become much more than that in the future.

Meanwhile, Kings get Fiala for $7.9MM, Kempe for $5.5 and Danault for $5.5. (Rob is a genius) Gotta wonder what 35 goal scorer Kempe is thinking right now after Stuetzle contract.

Also, Byfield really better pan out soon. Same age as Tim and arguably less "pro" experience but man, I sure hope he kills it this season.

Plenty of ways to watch the Grand Tour without giving Amazon a dime......just say'n.

He’ll likely be worth that contract but still feels like too much too soon. 20 years shouldn’t get you that kind of leverage. Or maybe I can’t let Lombardi go.

As long as Byfield plays well enough to give this team a third line again I’ll be happy. I think this year will be all about him learning the defensive side of the game at the NHL level. Though if he scores north of 30 points I believe it’ll also mean Kaliyev pots a nice goal total.

In a spot of good news, Turcotte is listed on the Rookie Tournament Rosters. Hopefully that means he passed his physical.

Yeah he's a stud on the defensive end, but I still think Roy has a more rounded game and looks better overall in terms of analytics currently when looking at all zones combined.

Ridiculous over payment, but based on skill and inflation the contract may age well. Still too much too soon though either way.
