Those kind of comparisons don't hold much weight to me. It is like saying "Guy Carbonneau and Leo Boivin and Clark Gillies are in the HHOF so let's admit these other Hall of Good players". Maybe the Sens paid too much or maybe they paid too early but I don't know if Stutzle is a usable comp. Quoting goals also doesn't consider just how tenacious Stutzle was tracking the puck when Ottawa was on defense. He played a 200 foot game last season with lots of energy. That said, no way I'd pay sign him to that deal even if 21-22 was a breakout season.

Totally agree with Byfield. This is the no excuses season for him. He's going to get lapped by guys in his draft class like Stuzle, Drysdale, Lundell, and Raymond. I watched a little of the summer camp and I'm still underwhelmed with his shot. It doesn't look like a "60" like Pronman had in his scouting report.

Lol thanks. What's interesting to me (as an American) is the vast laws and differences between states. So many I can't even get started on between OR and SC, and I'm slowly learning how to talk to people here. It's quite different. I've heard the same thing about differing neighborhoods in Europe though, so I guess it makes sense 3k miles apart :)

I think, at least initially, he gets lapped though either way if for no other reason that opportunity. Stutzle and Drysdale really don't have any competition to push them out of the top spot. That's not the case with Byfield or Lafreniere however who have to earn their spot on the roster and don't have much of a chance of it being a top spot at the moment. Lundell is the exception (though he is playing with a higher level of line talent than Byfield is likely to next season).

I agree with you, though, that Byfield has a lot to prove next season, as does Turcotte.

I agree with you, though, that Byfield has a lot to prove next season, as does Turcotte.

Turcotte has NHL talent, but he has to prove he can stay healthy. If he can just stay on the roster, his future is centering Kempe and Fiala.
 
Fiala was interviewed on 32 Thoughts today. Addressed not playing much with Kaprizov saying they’re both players who always want the puck, so it wasn’t a good fit. Said Kopitar and Danault are both great passers and 200 foot players and he likes to shoot, so hopefully will have good chemistry with either getting set up.

Lets hope that he's gonna need the puck so much he can't work with Kopi.
 
Probably just to have bodies to evaluate the rookies against in camp while they save on the top end.
 
teams sign old vets to PTO's every season. Like clock work. It's just to provide some vet presence and measuring sticks to clear for the kids.

Not saying this is the reason, but a good time to bring up the NHL Veteran Presence rule for the preseason:

During each preseason game, each team has to compile a list of veterans and dress eight for every game. This new change must be instituted to draw larger crowds to preseason games.

The NHL indicates for the purposes of exhibition games a veteran constitutes for 30 NHL games played, a first round draft choice of that year's draft, or any player with over 100 NHL games under their belt.

For the purposes of exhibition alone this is the definition of an NHL veteran, which would not extend into the regular season.

NHL defines a veteran, demands 8 must play in preseason games

This rule was instituted due to most clubs requiring season ticket holders to purchase all preseason home games. The fans were complaining about watching AHL lineups to the point that the league finally did something about it 9 years ago. Nate played 33 games last year. He's doing the club a solid, lets pray he's not got enough in the tank to earn an actual contract for the season.
