Yeah, it sure feels like it. NHL is probably better than other sports in that a single provider (ESPN+) can get you like 90% of the games.
In contrast for NFL, the games are on Amazon, Fox, CBS, and NBC (TV with their own streaming). Plus ESPN and NFL Network. I think last year's playoffs were the first where a game ended up on Peacock (NBC streaming-ONLY platform) rather than over-the-air TV and people were very mad.
Yes, every single streaming service provider is grabbing a trickle of sports to try and entice people to sign up for their crappy service. Again, luckily my Spectrum streaming and ESPN+ seems to get me all of the hockey games. If I was a serious NFL fan or NBA fan as they move to the new contracts, I'd be very annoyed. I guess that is why so many people on reddit joke about sailing the seas. Who would have thought that the arrangement of a decade ago was the best where we could get all games in a single location?
