All Things:Fairytale Movies

James Corden may have the best late show genetic pool ever on his show tonight: Blunt, Chastain, Theron and Hemsworth. Funny stuff with all 4 of them for almost an hour.

Is Andy Serkis' Jungle Book Doomed? | Fandemonium

In what we can only imagine is related news, the competing Warner Brothers Jungle Book movie from director Andy Serkis has been pushed back by a year to 2018. Serkis has been talking about the film recently, saying that what will distinguish their film is that it will be "darker" in tone.

If you've seen Disney's Jungle Book then you may have noted that there are some genuinely grim and scary moments, particularly for children. Serkis said that his film would be far more aimed at adults, more along the lines of a Planet of the Apes movie. Yet, he also mentioned that it's sometimes beneficial to scare children.

I love Serkis and can't wait to see what he does as a director, but in all honesty it sounds as if both he and the studio now feel backed into a corner in a match that it's going to be very hard to win. If the idea is to create a film that's adult in nature, then why not make the one he's been aching to for years?

I get the feeling that Serkis' version was/is supposed to be more subversive and less the family friendly version than was expected from Disney/Favreau. Also smaller in scope and ambition. Maybe more Animal Farm than Jungle Book. But the critical and commercial success of Favreau's version really has put Serkis behind the eight ball. I wouldn't be horribly surprised if this gets shelved.

Saw Alice TTLG today and liked it. Too bad there were only 10 people in the theater.

Disney and Jon Favreau Teaming for ?The Lion King? Reimagining

Anything like Jungle Book and Johnny Favs has found a new niche...

They can get Darth Vader to do Mufasa's voice again!! Too bad that the actress do did Sarabi's voice died quite a while ago though. :(

Dunno, it's just a matter of time in which they make live action versions of most of these Disney films. I am sort of looking forward to Beauty & the Beast because I identify with Belle's reading habits. ;)

I don't know if I want to see a live action version of Pinocchio though. Creepy damn whale! :scared:

‘Mulan’ Live-Action Movie Lands ‘Game of Thrones’ Director Alex Graves

While Disney’s version is said to be a mixture of the animated film and the literary ballad, Sony’s Mulan is being targeted more towards an international audience. This one will certainly have a female lead, while Sony Pictures International Productions will be handling the project. Jason Keller wrote the script, which is funny considering how his Mirror, Mirror was being developed and released around the same time as Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman. Now he finds himself in a similar situation

I didn't realize there were TWO versions of this being developed. Do we really need two? And what a minefield to navigate with everyone's hypersensitivity. Good luck with that.
