Review: 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' Isn't Boring, But It Is Unrelentingly Stupid | The Playlist

The film is nauseating in 3D, and makes ample, almost comical use of the format, missing not a single opportunity for wood shards or arrows or buckshot to fly at the audience. The fight scenes are cut too quickly and with too much camera movement to even discern what is happening. It’s messy, blurry, and motion sickness-inducing. Written and directed by Tommy Wirkola, it’s unclear if Wirkola himself read the script before the shoot. Not only is not even a single character more than one-dimensional, but every line falls flatter than a witch dispatched with a Gatling gun. There are many problems with 'Hansel & Gretel,' and every one of them leads back to the dud of a script they are working with, where the anachronistic dialogue never found a place it couldn’t shoehorn in a “****” or “****” (gotta make that R-rating count!). Famke Janssen says, “Once upon a time, in a ****ty little town,” (and we can’t help but steal the words right out of her mouth for this) and unfortunately, "...there was a really ****ty movie." [D]

Yeah...H&G didn't even get screened for the media. The best I have read is that it's a simple diversion that isn't bad enough to hate. Apparently LOTS of studio interference and the delay was basically to capitalize on Renner's hype(that really hasn't happened) after Avengers/Bourne. Most of the reviews are none too kind to him either. File under...meh, who cares.

Yep, pretty much.

Kenneth Branagh May Take Over For Mark Romanek On Disney's Cinderella - Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Vulture reports Kenneth Branagh is negotiating to take over directing duties and this seems like a great fit, perhaps even greater than Romanek, who reportedly left the project because his vision was deemed too “dark” for such a family-favorite tale.

Would have liked to have seen Romanek's version, but Branagh is a great choice.

s for casting, which had just gotten underway under Romanek, Cate Blanchett is still on board to play Cinderella’s evil stepmother, while no Cinderella has been found yet. Last we heard, Saoirse Ronan, Alicia Vikander and Gabriella Wilde were all vying for the part

Paramount Moving Forward with HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS Sequel | Collider

Paramount Pictures is now officially developing a sequel to this past January?s R-rated genre pic Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters. You?d be forgiven for being a bit surprised at the news, as the film was a flop domestically with a total gross of just $54.6 million. However, overseas the film has now taken in over $150 million. Against a purported budget of $50 million, the pic?s worldwide gross of $205 million is apparently enough to justify moving forward with the follow-up, as Deadline reports that a sequel is now officially in development...

Tommy Wirkola wrote and directed the first film, but it?s unknown if he?ll be returning for the sequel. Stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton are presumably under contract to reprise their roles, but Paramount could also go another route (direct to DVD/VOD, new cast, etc.). At this point the sequel is only ?in development,? so there?s no guarantee that it?ll actually come to fruition. I never saw the first film so I can?t speak to whether a follow-up is warranted or not, but I can?t envision Renner being too happy about coming back to make a sequel to a movie that domestic audiences rejected outright.

From the 'welllllll whatdoya know' department.

Didn't they already make a live Jungle Book film already with that dude who played Bruce Lee or am I having an acid flashback?
