B.T.W. Odd cameo on the Strain the other night...the white ponytailed gent was one Rick Baker. Good solid death scene.
Info on FX's "American Horror Story: Freak Show" has been coming in slowly but surely, and in Entertainment Weekly’s Fall TV Preview we learn a bit more about all the characters...
...especially John Carroll Lynch's "Twisty the Clown" and a very popular one who's returning from "Asylum."
Per EW, this season’s main villain is a nasty fella (and murderer) named Twisty the Clown, portrayed by Lynch, who has retired in Jupiter, Florida, and is not thrilled by the arrival of the freak show.
“He’s out to make their lives a living hell,” explained "AHS" exec producer Ryan Murphy. “He’s wearing a mask on the lower part of his face, and there comes a point in the season where he takes the mask off, and when you see what’s under, you will faint in terror.”
As for whom the previously announced Wes Bentley will be playing in this season's two-part Halloween episode, it's a character named Edward Mordrake. “He is a very famous horror myth,” revealed Murphy. “It was a man with two faces: a normal face and then a face on the back of his head that would whisper evil things and force the forward-facing entity to commit horrible crimes.”
Now that we know the bad guys, what else did EW reveal about the "Freak Show"? Here are a few highlights; for the rest be sure to hit the link at the bottom of the page.
First off, Murphy has confirmed that Naomi Grossman will be returning in the role of Pepper, who first appeared in Season 2, "AHS" Asylum." “She is in this [season],” Murphy told EW. Since "Freak Show" takes place in 1952, a good 12 years before the events of "Asylum," we'll learn, according to Murphy, “what happened to Pepper before she went to the asylum.”
With regard to Jessica Lange's character, former German cabaret star Elsa Mars, "[She] is very manipulative,” said Lange. “She understands what’s needed, and she provides it. However, the thing I want to be very clear [is] that Elsa really loves these people. She truly cares for them in her own selfish, narcissistic way. It’s not just exploitation.”
As for conjoined twins Bette and Dot (Sarah Paulson), they are two very different personalities sharing one body. “It’s not as simple as nice and evil,” Paulson teased. “It’s more complicated, in true Ryan Murphy style.”
Jimmy (Evan Peters) was born with lobster-like hands, and his mother is bearded lady Ethel (Kathy Bates), "Elsa’s right-hand woman [who] helps run the camp and [acts as] sort of the guardian of the law," according to Murphy. Jimmy's father and Ethel’s ex-husband, Dell Toledo (Michael Chiklis), is a strongman who’s on the run from the law. Dell’s new wife, Desiree Dupree (Angela Bassett), is a three-breasted performer, a role requiring Bassett to wear a prosthetic that covers her entire chest.
Emma Roberts and Denis O’Hare play a pair of con artists; Frances Conroy is a wealthy woman whose son (Finn Whitrock) wants to join the freak show; and Gabourey Sidibe portrays a socialite who returns home to Jupiter when her mother (Patti LaBelle) goes MIA.
The Middle East political drama will return for a 2nd season after averaging 5.1 million viewers during its 10-episode 1st season.

"Partners" failed to get the necessary ratings to trigger an automatic pick up of additional episodes, and FX boss John Landgraf has suggested that he's getting out of the 10/90 business that led to shows like that, "Anger Management" and "Saint George" airing on his network. "The Bridge" has been much improved in season 2, but the ratings are so low that I'm bracing myself for the series to end in two weeks. "You're the Worst" has turned out to be one of the year's best comedies, but it and "Married" are both struggling mightily on Thursdays, and enter tonight's season finales unsure of their fates.
And "Tyrant" — which endured many real-life difficulties, including the departure of its creator and a shut-down of production during the recent troubles in Israel — got some of the most scathing reviews of any FX original drama, and its ratings have been modest, albeit fairly consistent; those who came to the show early stuck with it. And perhaps because of that stability — plus a desire to stay in business with producer Howard Gordon, plus a need for more drama inventory a year from now (when both "Sons of Anarchy" and "Justified" will be gone) — FX has not only renewed "Tyrant" for a second season, but expanded its episode order, from 10 this summer to 13 a year from now.
I don't know that this affects the future of the comedies one way or the other, but it's sure not great news for "The Bridge." I suppose there's a longshot scenario where FX decides to again load up on as much product as possible to fill the long stretch between when "Justified" and "The Americans" wrap up their latest runs in mid-spring and when (presumably) "American Horror Story" season 5 is ready to go around the following Halloween. But given how this summer went, I think it's more likely they try to tighten things up a year from now.

Before we get to those character posters, have you seen the latest teaser for Freak Show? (If not, you can find it at the bottom of this post.) For lack of better terms, it’s freaky. In fact, all the clown promos for the show have been especially unnerving and now Murphy is expressing concern that Twisty the Clown might be too terrifying for viewers. Here’s what he told BuzzFeed:
“We said in the writer’s room that if we were going to do clowns, we were going to create the most terrifying clown of all time. That was our goal when we were writing him, but I’m worried about people being too afraid of our clown. It’s heart-stopping what he does. I’m worried. I’m worried that people are going to have cardiac arrests … The clown’s intro in the first episode is … even I was terrified of it. It’s brutal. Two crew members told me they have had nightmares about this clown since we started shooting and they’re not even scared of clowns. I think he’s pretty extraordinary because, when you see why he’s a clown and why he’s wearing the mask … just you wait.”
