All Things:Fx

Watched my recording of The Executioner. Sons of Anarchy went off the rails when it became so successful that FX let Sutter off the leash, and, well, the very first scene of Executioner has gratuitous over-the-top violence and naked ass. It is still pretty watchable for a complete recycling of much of Braveheart and Robin Hood. Does someone get stabbed in the back of the head with the blade coming out his face? Yes. Is it awesome? Yes. Is it obvious that the main character will be sexing the newly widowed princess sooner or later? Yes.

At one point a character says "I hate when she does that", then her next line is "milady", and then she goes back to "****". Anachro-tastic!

A big highlight is the hilariously miscast Katie Sagal as a witch. Seriously, how did she get the job?

I am still one episode back on Denis Leary Plays Tommy Gavin As A Rocker, but it is highly entertaining, with every character being amusing in their own way. I don't believe the daughter's character at all, but certainly appreciated her in that sell-out episode. Denis Leary's wife is the unsung hero of the show, although yeah, the drummer and bass player are great.

Ok, saw all but the last few minutes of The Bastard Executioner.

First off...THERE BE SPOILERS AHEAD...

First off, Sutter telegraphing who killed the wife and kid, sloppy. Why not leave it vague and draw that out to a potentially devastating reveal? Sutter working in Gemma I can handle. Good, bordering on great actress, the character is Dr Doom's mom...but whatever. Did he have to give himsefl the gimp part as the Burnt Nazi(errrr German)? Oh, back to the MOMENT(wife/son murder)...gee, a violent act that christens a hero's voyage, requiring some long gestating revenge...feel like we have done that recently(rhymes with Sons of Anarchy). So far, a lot of cliches. Not a lot of unique ideas. I still dig Sutter, but it may be time for him to be PART of something instead of being allowed to just indulge himself. It's like when David Lee Roth got free, and people stopped telling him NO. And he kept playing the ironic oldies/tv host personality, till it got tiresome.
Another thing. I have not yet forgiven Stephen Moyer for being part of True Blood and all the wasted time and optimism that it inflicted on me. A little troubling that he was buggering the ass wiper. Is he gay, or is he just going all "it's good to be the king!!!" and ramming all the common folk because he can. Not an uninteresting angle, but you could let us get to know the character. For ****s sake, he is so obviously BAD that you should hear a live audience BOOOOOOOOOO when he comes on screen.

So yeah. Don't love it. But I will keep with it until it appears there is no hope.

Stuck with the Strain. Last 4 or 5 episodes have been corkers!!!!

Two episodes into Executioner, it continues to be reasonably watchable, but overall it is such an embarrassing self-indulgence in almost every way. And for the love of God, cut the supernatural BS and accompanying amateur CGI.

That scene with the snake was SYFY esque

Jesus...the Bastard Executioner is frustrating. Some nice developing stuff, like the religious conspiracy(?), The weirdness with his adopted family, the Moor...and Vampire Bill is killing it as the scheming handwringer behind the scenes. But, it's kind of boring. Trying to be patient, but the 'moral dilemma of the week', and the feeling of 'Them Duke Boy's are in a pickle this time' feeling every episode is getting tiresome. Some nice things from this week's episode...I hate the French, and The guy who saved Arya while watching Ned get a little taken off the top showing up(he was the torturer). But it's BORING. And **** Ed Sheeran.

Having trouble following all the little subplots mainly due to being very disjointed and like you said boring. I thought the chamberlin knowing he was not the executioner was revealed too soon.

I don't remember SOA starting this slow and confusing. I guess the real drama begins with him hooking up with Nobel lady.

I think it is pretty clear that Sutter went with this show because the subject and time period has given him free reign to show the kind of gruesome torture and extreme cruelty that SAMCRO just couldn't reach being set in modern times. The last Game Of Thrones book can't believe how excessive it is.

The Bastard Executioner...picked up a little bit this week. Or maybe I am just getting used to it. I think it still has a long way to go until it's more than just another show, but gonna stick with it. Glad the Baroness proved that even in the Dark Ages you could fool a p*ss test.

But the STRAIN...

Ok, I read the books, and they were middle of the road virus/apocalypse stuff. When this season started I was losing interest rapidly. But something clicked. They course corrected all season culminating with a STUNNING character death. And _____'s removal is great because she was not believable and was given nothing to do. The fact that it wasn't the way the books went, made it even better. Now you have the Professor, Fet, Angel, the thug, and the BORN teamed up. And The doc is cut loose and hurting. Was not expecting the other character death either. That added layers to the story as well. Glad Eichhorst survived...trouble there because he is more compelling as a villain than the Master...but at some point he is owed a SERIOUS death. Kingsqueen gave up on this show, rightfully so...but I may have to bother her to pick it up again. Damn it all now I have to wait till next summer for a show that really has improved and worked it's way up the list of must watch items.

The German - it's getting to be too many times he's just gotten away. At some point he needs to finally eat it, it's getting more unbelievable every time. I liked his backstory and wish they would've shown more of it (including when/how he turned)

Otherwise, yeah that death was pretty huge. Doctor is gonna go on a rampage. How dumb is his son?!

Pretty dumb. But Eichorst is too good to lose now. And everyone has slipped death a few times. No Dutch in the finale. Not upset about that. They will almost certainly introduce a new female character next season.

That was a little weird not having her in the finale. I really hope the rat exterminator guy stays forever, he is the best.
