Australian Comedian Jim Jeffries Lands LEGIT Pilot at FX

With Louis CK, one of the finest comedians working today, finding success with his fantastic series Louie on FX, another great comedian is looking to follow in his footsteps. Deadline has word that the cable network has just given the greenlight to a pilot called Legit, a potential new series starring Australian comedian Jim Jeffries. The show will follow a misanthrope (Jeffries) trying to go legit. Apparently the comedian had a show in development at Comedy Central last year about his life in the United States but that never got off the ground. Peter O’Fallon, a TV director and producer behind such series as The Riches and House M.D. will executive produce the new series.

Jeffries’ brash, vulgar and even bleak comedic stylings are along the same lines of honesty and grittiness of Louis CK, so I think this new series will fit in perfectly on FX. The network has really taken off with their original programming, and if they keep bringing truly unique and edgy series like this to life, then they should have plenty of success to come. If you’re unfamiliar with Jeffries as a comedian, we’ve included some of his bits after the jump, but be advised that the language is very NSFW.

This guy's Alcoholicaust special on HBO is pretty funny. I look forward to this. Keep up the good work Fx.

Great read! Denis O'Hare is quickly becoming one of my favorites out there right now. I hated this past season of True Blood, so much of it was so stupid. I was ready to completely write it off until the quivering lip took the shotgun blast to the head and then I saw that hole in the parking garage. I actually applauded and screamed "RUSSELL'S BACK!" He's just so enjoyable to watch no matter what kind of character he's playing. He crosses that line of normal to creepy so easily.

Looking forward to the 2nd episode of AHS tonight!

So I re-watched the pilot last night with BoobyTrap and I caught a couple of homages/references and was wondering if any of you had seen any other ones?

-During the scene where the troubled kid is shown walking through a school hall with the skull makeup on his face, the music from Twisted Nerve (also used in Kill Bill) is played.
-During the scene in which the one guy burns his family (and self), music from Hitchcock's Vertigo is playing. I had recognized the music the first time I saw it, but couldn't remember where from. BoobyTrap told me it was Vertigo (and she would know).
-At the beginning, when the two ginger kids die in the basement and just as the one is about to scream, they cut to a shot outside the house with the little down syndrome girl looking at the house and the camera pulling away. That's a bit straight out of the Korean film A Tale Of Two Sisters.

Anybody else catch anything?

TV Bits: ‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘Haven’, ‘The Simpsons’ Get Renewals; Watch ‘Walking Dead: Torn Apart’ Webisodes; ‘Justified’ Casts Season 3 Villains | /Film

Every hero needs a villain, and Justified‘s Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) is about to get two. Neal McDonough (Captain America: The First Avenger) and Mykelti Williamson (Bubba from Forrest Gump) have been cast as the baddies in the contemporary Western’s third season, which kicks off January 2012. McDonough will play well-dressed Detroit gangster Quarles, who intends to become the new crimelord in town, while Williamson will play Limehouse, a Harlan County man who wants to protect his land at any cost.

Don't forget this great show.

I read someone else mention these:

The bone wind chimes at the very beginning being straight out of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Burned guy standing in the clothesline like in Halloween

So... thoughts on episode 2?

I liked it, though I thought the use of the music from Psycho distracting (even though it's really good, effective music).

FX Developing SCAR TISSUE and THE AMERICANS Series

FX is currently in the midst of developing two new projects. The first of which is called Scar Tissue, and is based on the autobiography of Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis. The project was originally set up at HBO, but now The Wrap reports that FX is taking on the drama. Entourage executive producers Mike Benson and Marc Abrams will executive produce alongside Kiedis and Jason Weinberg. FX is also developing a project called The Americans, which centers on a group of Russian spies living in America in the 1980s. Graham Yost, the creator/writer/executive producer of the FX drama Justified is producing alongside Falling Skies executive producers Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, with Joe Weisberg (also from Falling Skies) writing and executive producing as well.

Ok, not automatically appealing, but it's Fx so I will trust in them.

BTW just rewatched first episode of American Horror Story(was 'tired' when I first watched)...anyway, what a great show. Jessica Lange chewing scenery like a pro. I really want this show to last, it's so nice and icky.

The Americans sounds like something I can get on board with. I'm not a RHCP fan, so I couldn't care less about Scar Tissue.

Agree 100% on Jessica Lange. She is just great in this.

FX Developing New Series with BUNKER and LAREDO

At the end of last week we learned FX was developing Scar Tissue and The Americans, but now THR has brief word on two more series being developed at the cable network. First on the docket is Bunker, a series from Chernin Entertainment and Fox Television Studios which follows a female cop psychologist from Boston. Writer Dennis Lehane, who penned the books behind films like Shutter Island, Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone is writing and executive producing the series. Considering the great stories Lehane has penned and their successful film adaptations, this should be yet another series to look forward to next season.

Next comes Laredo, another crime drama from Flags of Our Fathers writer William Broyles who will also executive produce the new series which is set at the Texas/Mexico border, and should be much more dramatic than the recent border showdown on South Park. There’s yet to be a modern series tackling the idea of immigration in a dramatic context like this, and FX seems to be one of the best places outside of pay cable channels and AMC for some really hard-htting drama.

Hurm. Nothing really 'pops' here either. But I have the utmost faith in Landesgraf and the folks at Fx. As always, I will give them a chance.

American Horror Story Marathon Planned - ShockTillYouDrop.com

FX will air a special Halloween marathon of the new hit drama American Horror Story featuring the first four episodes of the series on Monday, October 31 beginning at 10:00 PM E/P.

In addition to the Halloween marathon, series Co-Creators and Executive Producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have produced a special two-part Halloween-themed episode in honor of the horror-filled holiday; the first hour airs Wednesday, October 26 at 10:00 PM ET/PT and the second airs Wednesday, November 2 at the same time. Feature film star Zachary Quinto (Star Trek) guest stars in both episodes as one of the house’s former owners.

wtf was that sunny episode last week? probably the worst episode of the series. tonights better be good cuz this season has been kind of disappointing

the league. on the other hand, has been great

Finally got caught up with American Horror Story. It's done very well. They are giving you backstory in pieces so, even though you still have questions, they aren't frustrating you with hints. Anyone but me think that the title really refers to marriage in general more than anything else?

And guys...question time. Would you 'do' the maid knowing that everyone else saw her as the crone version while you continued to get the hot 'fetish party' version?

Yep...

Everyone with Directv better call and yell about this BS going on with fox, we wont get hockey, we wont get SOA, and no AHS.

I thought it was ok. Had some pretty funny bits. The previous episode, down at Jersey Shore, I liked a lot.

Assuming all other concerns were null and void?

Yep.
