This is NOT hyperbole. LEGION is easily the best X-Men translation. Noah Hawley is pretty goddamned talented. And LEGION is almost too good for tv.
Last night's episode may have been one of the most visually arresting things I have ever seen. From the Fincher-esque camera movements, to the chalkboard animations, the showdown in b&w with old timey subtitle cards...hell, the whole thing. And someone has finally been able to harness Aubrey Plaza and Gemaine Clement and really showcase their talents. There is nothing bad about this...unless you want to count the fact that it's only 8 episodes. But, by keeping the episode count low, they manage to really use the budget for practical and cgi trickery that makes this show a perpetual drug induced nightmare. And RIP 'the Eye'. That was a tough way to go. Cheesy and spectacular in one fell swoop. I will be rewatching this endlessly. Hawley has tried to distance this show from the comics version, where David is the son of Xavier. But last night's episode had a glimpse of a wheelchair with an x-wheel, and the chalkboard drawings of David's biological father certainly looked the part. Add in that his rational mind(who he interacted with in an almost Army Of Darkness Ash/Evil Ash way) had a British accent. If he is true to his word that Professor X ain't the pappy, then that is expert level trolling. Y'all need to be watching this. SERIOUSLY!!!!!
