All Things:Fx

This is NOT hyperbole. LEGION is easily the best X-Men translation. Noah Hawley is pretty goddamned talented. And LEGION is almost too good for tv.

Last night's episode may have been one of the most visually arresting things I have ever seen. From the Fincher-esque camera movements, to the chalkboard animations, the showdown in b&w with old timey subtitle cards...hell, the whole thing. And someone has finally been able to harness Aubrey Plaza and Gemaine Clement and really showcase their talents. There is nothing bad about this...unless you want to count the fact that it's only 8 episodes. But, by keeping the episode count low, they manage to really use the budget for practical and cgi trickery that makes this show a perpetual drug induced nightmare. And RIP 'the Eye'. That was a tough way to go. Cheesy and spectacular in one fell swoop. I will be rewatching this endlessly. Hawley has tried to distance this show from the comics version, where David is the son of Xavier. But last night's episode had a glimpse of a wheelchair with an x-wheel, and the chalkboard drawings of David's biological father certainly looked the part. Add in that his rational mind(who he interacted with in an almost Army Of Darkness Ash/Evil Ash way) had a British accent. If he is true to his word that Professor X ain't the pappy, then that is expert level trolling. Y'all need to be watching this. SERIOUSLY!!!!!

There is only one episode of this left! I don't want it to end!!! :pssst:

After the first episode, Season 3 of Fargo promises to be as good as Seasons 1 and 2. Weeeeeee!

OOOOh lets not get ahead of ourselves. I had a real hard time with it. Reasons...Ewen McGregor, who I like, an englishman doing an american accent, doing a North Dakota accent. Lost in translation. Even Michael Stuhlbarg's accent seemed hokey. And McGregor playing 2 characters just didn't work for me. Maybe it was the makeup, but it all seemed forced. Pretty much like the accidental catastrophe that sets all in motion. First two seasons felt very organic, And surprising. This was just one long 'ok, where is the payoff' episode. Not to say I didn't see stuff I liked. The Carrie Coon sheriff plotline was the ONLY part of the show where the actors really felt like they weren't playing pretend. Now, don't get me wrong. I will watch till the end and I reserve the right to change my opinion, but the whole thing felt as if Fx wanted Hawley to do another season more than he really wanted to. Actually, in the other plotlines Winstead was subtle and believable as well. I just hope they tone it down a little. Maybe not be slavish to the oh YAH kinda yucking it up.

Since we are speaking of Fargo...

I am totally hooked, but what really seemed heavy handed was that the Parole Officer, from all of his "clients" that he could ask to steal the stamp, well, he picks the biggest burnout he could find, lol. Of course this was going to go wrong.

Anyhooow, I have been impressed with Mary Winstead as of late and she might make this series.

And I probably posted this, but I am sure that I am not the only person who sought out the song during the card tournament scene. I am not even going to tell you how many times I have watched that video since watching this show. I haven't been hooked on a song like this since Color Me Badd's I wanna Sex you Up. mhihi: :manybeers:
