Not sure about s2 of True Detective. I recently rewatched s1 and realized that some really bad cliche's and pretentious dialogue was elevated to something really special by the direction and the performances. S2 os off to a bad start in that regard. Not that the 3 leads aren't trying, but ok...so cops are dark, brooding and severely messed up in the head. Did they ALL have to be borderline sociopaths? The Chinatown 'similarities' are pretty thinly disguised too. Thought Justin Lin was a good choice for visuals not as much for storytelling as far as the direction goes. I still think it could prove to be a grow-er, not a show-er...but I remember the feeling last season, at the end of the first episode, that I was fully in. If this wasn't such a high profile deal and potentially rewarding I don't know if i would care too much.
Few random thoughts...ok, Rachel McAdams...the conversation at the beginning...was that about rough sex in general or backdoor action in particular.
Taylor Kitsch's character...is he homosexual? There were a lot of odd hints there, and his storyline, I think, has the most potential.
David Morse is ALWAYS good...but this was a stretch. Maybe the character, the writing, or more likely the direction.
Colin Farrell got really old overnight, and his character's name, Velcoro...is that Bengalese? Hell, I had to look it up on the internet just because I thought I heard 3 different pronunciations.
Vince Vaughn is walking through things so far. Was hoping he wouldn't be his usual lazy self...but so far. Once again...is it direction?
His character's wife is definitely the woman behind the man. Her character definitely bears watching. Looks a lot like Jessica Chastain.
I really want this to be good, and i will continue to watch and root for it.
