All Things HORROR

well, yeah. But it's not good enough to overcome all the years of waiting. It's a good little movie. I enjoyed it and moved on. If you have any anticipation you may be disappointed.

Conjuring was well done old school scary movie...with great performances across the board that really elevated things. Some great jump scares and whirling camera flourishes. Highly recommend. Added bonus got to meet LetTigerIn, good hang brother.

This is another one I've been anticipating for a while now. My favorite horror movies are the ghost/spirit kind, and when was the last time a movie was rated R simply because it was too scary for a PG-13? I'm pretty interested in the Warrens and their cases, so that's another reason I'm excited about this one, since I heard it does focus on them quite a bit. Even though I'm pretty skeptical about a lot of stuff involved in ghost hunting, etc.

JD and Tiger, I'm jealous y'all got to see this already! Did you get to see the props from the movie beforehand? Anything interesting?

Yeah they had some kickass props displayed...I am a sucker for toy monkey wind ups. I am a full skeptic. 6 years of early Catholic indoctrination made me fairly impervious to ghosts on this plane for some reason. But, even for me...it worked well. The movie really did focus on the Warrens...and the Perrons(?) and that was where the strength was. Like all these possession flicks they suffered the 90 some odd minutes of really nice mood/subtlety...basically spoiled by the 'BIG SHOWDOWN' with requisite showy Fx. To it's credit, you CARED...so it worked. That's me nitpicky. You should dig it. GREAT sound design and VERY VERY detailed 70's period detail. Hell...it's a good movie. You'll like it. Nice little cherry at the end if you are paying attention.

The props were beautiful. The doll is truly creepy. In hindsight, even with all the cool props, the one that caught my eye was a Sennheiser mic, probably a 416. Wow, I am a geek. Plus, the doll is creepy. Actually, all dolls are creepy, but this one especially so.

If you're into the ghost/spirit stuff and/or the Warrens, you'll probably like this movie as well as the cherry that jd mentioned. The whole movie is well crafted. I agree with jd that the good acting and solid characters are key. Personally, I didn't get as many jump scares as I did chill bumps, which I thought was kind of cool.

I wish we had a spoiler tag.

Oh, it's related to the Warrens? That makes me more interested!

Great Stuff. Thanks guys.

Tiger, I especially like your chill-scares comment.

I saw Insidious again last night with my friends who hadn't seen it before. I like it, but not as much as everyone else seemed to. But I'm expecting The Conjuring to be better.

JD, I think we need another rally: Support R-Rated Horror!

I want to watch Insidious, but some people have said it's a Poltergeist rip. Remember that clown doll from Poltergeist? It haunts my dreams! :O

I'll watch Insidious eventually. ;)

I loved Insidious but my opinion carries little weight since I've never seen Poltergeist. :fpalm:

You guys that are expecting Conjuring to be better than Insidious may be let down. I remember enjoying Insidious more, simply because it didn't spend 1/2 the movie under the guise of a true story trying to establish realism, and then blowing things the hell up(literally). Conjuring was good, but it's kind of the tale of two movies. Insidious was kooky and a little frayed at the edges, especially at the end...but I think the tone was a lot more consistent. Conjuring does have better performances though...so I am interested to see what you guys think.
