The ‘Ghostbusters’ Mess: How Did It Come To This?
http://uproxx.com/movies/ghostbusters-sexist-mess/

I’m worried about Ghostbusters. Not the 1984 movie. It’s a classic and it’s not going anywhere. And not the 2016 Ghostbusters, either. It will be great. Or it will be terrible. Or it will be somewhere in between. What worries me is whether or not we’ll even be able to see it for what it is — great, terrible, or whatever — when it comes out in July, given the atmosphere in which it will be released. Has any movie in recent memory arrived to such hostility before anyone has seen it? Can we take a step back to ask why?

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I can think of one.

It's funny...the critics are griping because the public is rejecting Ghostbusters sight unseen. Need I point out the hypocrisy?

That being said, if it bombs...it could seriously alter the retread market. Imagine, if people just stopped going to these cash ins. Hollywood could be crippled. They would have to start making original ideas again. Good luck with that.

Oh please, oh please, oh please! Imagine a Hollywood where they actually take risks on new ideas and not just trying to rebox/rehash things??!! And if the critics start saying this new Ghostbusters failure (potential failure) is based upon sexist concerns then I have truly heard everything ...

Oh that is coming, trust me. We were at Target the other day and I asked Kingsqueen if she wanted a Melissa McCarthy action figure. Her 'meh' pretty much said it all. It's like I said elsewhere...this need to include everyone...or, God help me, EMPOWER everyone is all well and good, but studios are gonna start balking when they lose money. And rightfully so. And when they shy away and start going back to the old practices, then what. Are you going to shame them for not wanting to throw money away?

Why wasn’t there a wave of angry, militant men on message boards, Twitter and making YouTube videos in their basements about how they were boycotting the remake of Total Recall?

cause my youtube channel has turned into videos of my kids...

I have said it before, and I will say it again. Remake, adapt, whatever it takes, just make sure it is good.

Are you going to shame them for not wanting to throw money away?

Nope. This may be the only reason they start coming up with their own original thoughts.

I may be ok if they want to remake some of the classic romantic comedies in the modern era - Topper, It Happened One Night, etc. But remaking stuff from 10 or 15 years ago ... just no ...

That ‘The Crow’ Remake Might Still Happen After All
http://collider.com/the-crow-remake-director-corin-hardy-hell-bent/

this sounds interesting though...

in the meantime, Hardy will direct Hell Bent for Paramount, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian producing. Deadline describes the project as “The Dirty Dozen goes to hell,” and provides this killer logline: “a group of mercenaries imprisoned in a Brazilian jail are murdered and led into the depths of hell by a priest who wishes to use their skills to kill Satan before he brings hell to Earth.” I will watch this movie. What’s even more exciting is that Hell Bent will see a return to old-school franchise building with a moderate $60 million budget that won’t hinge on star power, but a cast of up-and-comers. I made an entreaty that the industry see a return to mid-budget action movies after the success of Deadpool, and I sincerely hope Paramount’s move with Hell Bent is a predictor of a larger industry trend.

Ugh. I soooo feel like Charlie Brown lining up to kick the football, held by Lucy...every time Eddie Murphy threatens to show us why we thought he was awesome before.

This, will not end well.
