Pete’s Dragon is a rare gem of a summer movie. Not content to be just another remake, the film is a stunning exploration of grief, loss, hope, and family. It’s cleverly couched in the framework of a family film, and while it may not be as action-packed or humorous as some have come to expect from the genre, it’s still a welcome sight and shows that there’s not just magic in the forest, but still some at the multiplex as well.

reviews are really strong here. I think this movie is going to be special. A children's movie made with an adult's touch. Like the movies we grew up with. I was interested before, after what I have read...I have to see it.
 
When your career reaches the point where you are making a He-Man remake, it's time to direct television.

Good choice as far as the director. There hasn't been a version of this that I didn't like. I figured it would happen sooner or later. I guarantee that the current state of affairs(Brexit, Muslims, Trump, etc) will get referenced in the new take. It's ripe for it.

I agree. I wasn't being completely sarcastic when I said the world needs more Alien Nation. :P

A lot of TV shows based on movies tend to just milk the story, but I thought that the TV series in this case explored and expanded the concept from the movie. And you're right, the concept in the film, that is, the other and working alongside him/her can be done in interesting ways that deals with current politics and issues. I am hoping that this reboot is actually made relevant to today's climate as opposed to other remakes.
