Legendary Pictures announced today that it will be heading to this year’s Comic-Con International. On Saturday, July 11 at 2:30pm, Nerdist’s Chris Hardwick will host a panel that looks into the studios’ upcoming slate, offering content from films like Guillermo del Toro’s period horror thriller Crimson Peak, Duncan Jones’ video game adaptation Warcraft and the holiday horror film Krampus, the second feature film from Trick ‘r Treat director Michael Dougherty.
Legendary will also maintain a booth (#3920) on the exhibit hall floor, which is set to host a flurry of activity. Look for more information soon regarding talent and filmmaker signings, virtual reality experiences, Warcraft prop photo opportunities and fan giveaways.
Starring Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty, A Most Violent Year, Tom Hiddleston (Marvel’s The Avengers, Only Lovers Left Alive, Mia Wasikowska (Stoker, Alice in Wonderland), Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy,” Pacific Rim) and Jim Beaver (“Supernatural,” Adaptation), Crimson Peak is written by both del Toro and Matthew Robbins. Set in the aftermath of a family tragedy, the film follows an aspiring author, who is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider. Trying to escape the ghosts of her past, she is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds… and remembers.
A co-production between Legendary and Universal Pictures, Crimson Peak is produced by Del Toro, Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Callum Greene with Jillian Share serving as executive producer. Look for it to hit both 2D theaters and IMAX beginning October 16.
Krampus then arrives this December 4 with a cast that includes Adam Scott, Toni Collette, Emjay Anthony, Allison Tollman, David Koechner, Conchata Ferrell, Stefania Owen and Krista Stadler. It tells the story of young Max, who turns his back on Christmas as his dysfunctional family comes together and comically clashes over the holidays. When they accidentally unleash the wrath of Krampus—an ancient entity from European folklore—all hell breaks loose and beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own. Now, the fractured family is forced to unite if they hope to survive.
Krampus and his mischievous underlings are being created by the combined efforts of Weta Workshop and Weta Digital, both renowned for their epic work on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies and King Kong, among many others.
Warcraft, finally, arrives in theaters June 10, 2016, delivering to the big screen a 3D epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based upon Blizzard Entertainment’s globally-renowned universe. Directed by Jones and written by Charles Leavitt and Jones, the film is a Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment production. The producers are Charles Roven, Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, Alex Gartner and Stuart Fenegan. Jillian Share, Brent O’Connor, Michael Morhaime and Paul Sams serve as executive producers. Rob Pardo, Chris Metzen, Nick Carpenter and Rebecca Steel Roven co-produce. Warcraft will be released by Universal Pictures.
This is all well and good, but I want to see how the service interacts with San Diego Comic-Con. We saw earlier this year how Star Wars Celebration livestreamed their Star Wars: The Force Awakens panel and trailer. The announcement of the livestream came after tickets were sold, so I don’t know how much livestreaming affected attendance. There’s a convention beyond the panels, but if you’re someone who wants to go to Comic-Con for Hall H, is it worth it to be in that room? Or will studios realize they can reach a wider audience by livestreaming a panel? I’m eager to find out.
The network announced today that “Hannibal” and newcomers “Blindspot” and “The Player” would join their Comic-Con International schedule alongside the previously announced “Heroes Reborn” and “Grimm” panels. The “Hannibal” panel will take place on Saturday, July 11 in Ballroom 20 and offer a glimpse at the “Red Dragon” storyline, which will be followed up by a Q&A with actors Hugh Dancy and Richard Armitage as well as executive producers Bryan Fuller and Martha De Laurentiis.
Yeah...seen a LOT of tweets from Fannibals who are planning on showing up. It's gonna be a rowdy room, and part of me wonders if there is already a deal in place for season 4 to go elsewhere...I mean, NBC is cancelling them 3 weeks in? The ratings aren't much worse than they have been the whole time and the show is very cheap with the co-owned Gaumont thing...either way, if I can't get in to Hall H I am certainly gonna try to be in there for that. I haveway expect some kind of announcement. Shame that Mads ain't gonna make it.
Really hoping for it, though I wonder if an NBC panel is the worst, or best, place to make an announcement like that.
Available at San Diego Comic Con – and then online at Toysrus.com/ComicConvention on Thursday 9th July
Star Wars™ fans can re-create one of the biggest battles and missions in the Star Wars Saga with this set from The Black Series. Jabba’s Rancor™ Pit includes highly articulated 6-inch figures, all of which are featured in the epic Return of the Jedi scene where Jabba the Hut throws a Gamorrean Guard and Luke Skywalker into the Rancor Pit, while Princess Leia looks on in horror.
The FX Fearless Arena will cover the entire Hilton Bayfront Park – which, given that we already know Adult Swim is moving behind the convention center, begs the question where Warner Bros. is situated this year, or if they even have Lawn Con.
Attendees who stop by can step into the world of their favorite shows, with activations like The Strain‘s live-action virtual reality experience, where attendees will venture off on a two-and-a-half minute adventure; a two-story model hotel to give viewers a first look inside American Horror Story: Hotel; a chance to suit up as “warriors” and square off against each other with a high striker, cross-bow, and final puzzle challenge to escape the forest in The Bastard Executioner (plus win a hooded t-shirt); and step inside a giant 20-foot inflatable snow globe for Fargo.
Fans will be able to register for the activations early by going to www.fxsdcc.com beginning July 7th. The first 2,500 pre-registered fans who visit the Arena will receive a free, exclusive FX Fearless giant tote bag in the Welcome Area. Must be 18 or older to participate in activations for The Strain, The Bastard Executioner and American Horror Story: Hotel.
In addition, FX will also have an Archer-themed water fountain featuring Pam Poovey’s Dolphin Puppet, an It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia sunscreen station (that’s sure to be popular with this year’s Hall H NDL), concert button giveaways for Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, the Kwik-E-Mart Truck on site on Saturday offering free Squishees(OH KINGSQUEEN!!!!!!), and more giveaways.
