All Things: San Diego Comic-Con

Not sure it's as dire as you think...time will tell.

It's not as chaotic, but the process is going to suck to do during a work day. Wait in line, select your six choices, hope thousands of people didn't select yours first. Downtown hotels will be gone in minutes so prepare for that in making your choices.

Worst case, I'll take the Days Inn out in Hotel Circle for $180, but I'd rather be close if I can. :)

Get yerself a job where you don't start till 11am... ;}~

Other than that, you and your plus one both got terrific deals last time. Me and KQ would have been in some farther out point had it not been for your good fortune. Even with relatively varied choices, we normally do not get real lucky as far as the selection goes. So, hopefully it will work out. Once again...don't forfeit anything, nor will we, until we all have a chance to discuss. Maybe we can help each other out like you guys did for us last time. Figure with 4 people trying we should be able to get 2 decent choices. Hell...maybe even the same hotel for once.

Yeah last year we both put six different choices down and our first ones were not the "popular" ones but still close. I think that helped and we'll probably do that again. Rather walk 3-5 blocks than a 20 minute shuttle.

looking at the list, seems like at least 65-70 % downtown...

FAIRLY sure they did raise ticket prices. :)

Oh, they definitely did. But they also added an $8 hotel surcharge for shuttle service. The ultimate double dip. Just saying, if they didn't do the hotel tax, they would have folded those costs into (even higher) raises in ticket prices.
So, it's another case of...why bother complaining. It is what it is.

RFID: What Is It And What Can We Expect At SDCC?
http://sdccblog.com/2016/03/rfid-what-is-it-and-what-can-we-expect-at-sdcc/

If it all goes according to Hoyle, there are 2 possibilities.
1)It fails miserably, nobody does anything about it...despite near riots, and they apologize post con with a rigorous 'we will do better next time' message.
2)It will work, not great, but well enough that nobody does anything about it, and they apologize post con with a rigorous 'we will do better next time' message.

It worked fine at Womdercon. Especially when I attached it to my awesome retractable badge holder.

MUCH smaller scale. It worked at NYCC too according to all accounts, but once again...smaller scale. I hope it works, and cuts down on bogus ****...but the big problem is that the SDCC folks have a history of not really being able or willing to fix stuff on the fly. Any problems become tenfold due to their inability to acknowledge an actual problem while it is happening. Add in irritated staff that refuses to share information or have any sympathy whatsoever, and it truly becomes a problem.

Not sure it's as dire as you think...time will tell.

Just want to pull this one back and say that I was wrong about the process....

but SO ****ING RIGHT about it being an awful decision. The actual process was as smooth as could be. However, the assigning of hotels? Who even knows how that was done. Myself and jd were both fortunate that we were able to get downtown rooms, but other people complaining all over the place about the poor communication, the seemingly total randomness of the placements, the waiting lists, so on and so on. Not too surprised though, it's SDCC and it's the only thing they're good at really. Not being good at things.

Went to Emerald City ComiCon this past weekend and it blew! Panels were terrible and they sold a ton more tickets then in the past (no matter what anyone says I know there were a whole lot more people there). I was able to purchase a couple of trades and t-shirts I had never seen before but all in all I am thinking I will save my pennies for awhile and pass on ECCC. I can make the same purchases on-line now ...

"Good news everyone!"

We'll see how the details shake out, but that's a good start.
