All Things:Science Fiction/Fantasy

I am working hard to not get excited. Just feels like a set up for a big let down. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Totally agree. For all its visuals, Blade Runner was a very simple plot and that lent to the power of the climactic scene. They'll feel the need to "fill" the new movie for contemporary audiences and it will suffer for it. Hope not, but I'll be very surprised if they pull it off.

Villeneuve is the wild card here. Dude makes great flicks dripping with mood. Check out Arrival if you haven't yet.
Arrival was great. Nevertheless, even the best directors make clunkers once in a while. And the time for a clunker is never more ripe than when you're trying to make a sequel to a classic. I certainly hope I'm wrong. I would love nothing more than to be blown away.

He has expressed great reverence and fear of failure as far as doing it wrong. He is actively fan boy ing for Dune. I really feel like he's not gonna be what sinks this flick if it fails. Arrival was great, wasn't it?

Valerian was... just OK. Yeah it looked great. Probably a 7/10 for me.
