Still, one of the biggest questions from Season 5 is the fate of Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend). He was dragged halfway across the world, half-alive, potentially wishing he was dead (who can forget the vomiting up of black blood?), only to end with Carrie (Clare Danes) maybe thinking about smothering him for his own good. So … is he coming out of the coma?

Nevins says there’s no definitive answer, though he does not plan to toy with viewer expectations. “Homeland is a show that killed a lead,” he said. “It attempts to live in the real world. It’s less about playing games. There won’t be a supernatural solution.” And, if Quinn does live, he wouldn’t likely go back to being a badass assassin. “It will not be in any way shape or form the way he has lived to date,” he said.

that is a perfect description. from what I remember, none of the Homeland season finales have ever been that great, so maybe I should have expected the letdown.

That article mentions preliminary discussions of ending the show...which it may be time to do. My biggest gripe is that it is starting to seem Harlequin Romance-y/Fan Fic with everyone trying to get with Carrie and her twitchy teared anvil face. She's a terrible parent, drama queen and horrible friend. She cried and cried over Quinn like a widow, only to find him and be full party to jeopardizing his health beyond repair. She also basically sacrificed that poor cab driver who was making something of his life by co-opting him into her madness in an earlier episode. She is so quick to burn anyone and anything even mildly close to her, to the point I could imagine her using her kid as a human shield. She's a horrible horrible person.

I watched the first two episodes and enjoyed this show. It has the shock and awe typical of Showtime/HBO shows but the story is somewhat compelling. The main protagonists are a good storyline but there are a couple of good side stories/back stories at work that help feed the drama. They are out to prove too much money is a bad thing and leads to excess in life, in general.

I finally got through the first season of Penny Dreadful. :hockey2:

It wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed the series. The creepy tone, look, and characters kept me interested. I know a lot of peeps are talking about how so many shows/films are being based on comic books these days, but a literary nerd like me likes how shows are drawing from several classic novels. I mean, having Victor Frankenstein quote Percy Shelley is all sorts of geeky awesomeness. It's a good thing he didn't cite Mary though or that would have been akin to crossing the streams. :P

From what I've heard, the second season is even better so I am looking forward to that. I am always one step behind, but I'll get there eventually. ;)
 
The second season hits the ground running and offers a LOT more substance than the first one does. So besides being very pretty, it actually packs in a good story. The highlight of the season is a bottle/origin episode for Miss Ives featuring a great guest spot by Patti LuPone. It more than justifies your patience with the first season.
 
Is anyone else watching this?? This is starting to get really good. Axe and Chuck are going to burn NY down in their war on each other ...

Speaking of Penny Dreadful, I finished watching the second season! :D

It IS BETTER than the first season. A large part of it is that Miss Ives is basically the main character of the series, and since most of the characters have already been introduced in the first season, the second does a much better job in interweaving the other character's and their plotlines into and around Miss Ives's story. It also improves on the visuals which is saying something since the first season was already something to look at. Somebody told me that ep 3 resembles Mario Bava, and it does not just because of the Burn Witch plot, but because of the atmosphere and imagery.

The blood rain scene at the dance was also inspiring.

And then there was that ep which showed parallel scenes of sexuality like it was the daily designated daily time set for that sort of thing. Ugh! It reminded of a similar series of sexual scenes in Trainspoiting, haha, it just needed the Blondie song. :P

I am really looking forward to the third season. And Dr. Jekyll! See, peeps, I am not completely hopeless since I caught up. Do I get a cookie? Haha. :hockey2:
