All Things: Streaming TV Options

Recently I purchased a Roku 3 to add to system replacing the WIFI streaming option from my bluray player. Massive improvement in selection of apps and no longer have the buffering problem that would occur from time to time.

And, just in case you’re not aware of Shudder, it’s by far the best streaming service out there for horror fans (all due respect to Amazon’s impressive selection). Curated on the regular by Sam Zimmerman and Colin Geddes, Shudder offers a wide-ranging, international catalogue of horror films throughout the history of film. For the record, this isn’t a sponsored post or anything, I’m just a big fan of the service. In the Blockbuster days, I used to have to hunt films like these down online, and it’s pretty fabulous that now they’re just a click away.

I'm one episode into season 2 of Man in the High Castle.

Not quite on holistic detective agency level, but man this show is going nutso.

I love it. But I think I have to rewatch that episode a few more times to follow everything.
 
For better or worse I finally did it. I am a cord cutter. It wasn't a clear cut conscious decision. I was a little perturbed that my bill with Frontier had gone up by $20/mo. I did a little research and decided to order Spectrum Internet for $40/mo and Directv Now for $35/mo. This will save me about $50/mo.

Directv Now has a promotion on right now with their $60 package for only $35. Supposedly, you get to keep that price for as long as you have that package and service. It has almost all the channels that I like and watch. It doesn't have all the local channels. In the LA market, it has ABC and Fox. NBC is available only on mobile and browsers <shrug>.

I started service last week. I haven't played around with it too much as Internet was installed last night and Frontier was cancelled. I can't say I am a fan of the guide but it gets the job done. No cloud based DVR but is supposed to be coming next year. Picture quality is excellent. I haven't had or used this service long enough to say it is good or bad. I know I will have change the way I watch tv but I think I can deal with that. I currently view it via an Amazon Fire TV. If you sign up for 3 months they send you an Apple TV.

Fox Sports West- Yes
Prime Ticket- Yes
NHL Network- Yes
