We know that GOTGM:B is just the beginning for the incoming Marvel Land. Pretty lame that they can't do anything original anymore and just find ways to shoehorn in IP's.

I thought The whole reason for switching ToT to GOTGM:B was so they don't have to pay royalties anymore? Using IP means they can spend more money on the ride itself? If the description of star wars land is accurate, i'm happy they are using IPs.

DL weekend round up.

Went to DL/DCA this weekend, and it was kind of hit or miss.

I was actually disappointed with the Guardians ride. The tower kind of looks cool, the lobby looks cooler (got a fastpass so didn't spend too much time there). The second lobby/Video was funny with Rocket. No more This elevator takes you directly to... the gift shop. :( The actual ride dynamics were meh. I wanted the long drop. instead we got 6 short drops. just went you got the stomach sinking feeling, it was over. I hope its random and we just ended up getting a bad ride program. Wanted to ride again, but didn't want to wait the 2 hours.

If you have the Disneyland mobile app and photopass, and have them linked, this visit, the pictures were available from DCA in about 15 minutes from the app. kept getting pop up alerts. pretty cool. Took photos at DL, and they were still very slow. DCA probably has better WiFi.

The path from frontier land to fantasy land was open, it was nice to be able to stroll through again.

Space Mountain, Matterhorn, and Splash Mountain all broke down for extended periods.

The new fastpass system were they are programming you to scan your park ticket was pretty cool. no more worrying about losing your fastpass! Just hoping they bring magicbands in limited capacity to the Ca parks. It's so nice to have your ticket around your wrist.

This sounds perfect for me who's stomach can't take major drops!

Soooooo I ended up going on Guardians again. The first time, I was TERRIFIED. We got the Jackson 5 - "I Want You Back" version and there were multiple BIG drops, including a huge one at the very end which literally felt like we dropped the entire way down the tower. I went again on Saturday and we got the "Born To Be Wild" version and it was way more mild. Maybe 5 or 6 small drops and I handled it just fine.

I knew there were variations, but the difference between the two I had was huge. Clearly some are way more intense than others, so I guess just keep going on it! I probably won't. I'm worried I'll get an intense one again and then probably end up with PTSD.

I went to DL on Friday evening after work and stayed till closing. I was very excited to see they were testing the trains of the DLRR!!! I got video of one passing through behind the Big Thunder Trail, it was amazing to see it in action!!!

Meh. I don't really mind the change. As long as they keep the redhead and keep everything else in the ride, I don't really care. The "buy a bride" section never particularly bothered me, but I can see why people don't like it. Though I don't really know why burning and looting a town is still fun and wholesome enough to keep, but selling women is too far. But I am excited for the inevitable badass redhead lady pirate merch!

Let's be real though....Jack Sparrow being all over the ride is the real travesty here.

Magic Bands aren't coming to DL anytime soon. MaxPass paid FP system will roll out next and be phone app based. Magic Bands have a much bigger function at WDW (payment, room key, tickets) and was a financial mess. DL has such a large locals attendance (versus WDW's tourists) that it just doesn't pay out for them to introduce the bands here. I'm a big fan of the bands by the way, worked great for our trips.

When we went last week they were using the same system...but the printouts were a paper receipt. You had to scan you pass at the collection spot. I have to figure they will get rid of the 'paper receipts' next because why bother otherwise. Seemed to work alright. People were confused...but when aren't they.

Yes, this is all part of the testing phase for maxpass, hence the new readers. I found it very interesting that they also change the timing for securing an additional FP. You could literally have 6 FP all valid for roughly a 1-2 hour period and if you are quick, knock out all the major rides in that timeframe. My gut tells me that they will someday migrate to an all FP/reservation system.

The new system is wonky for now. I found it kind of cumbersome to have to reach into my wallet and pull out my AP to have that scanned instead of the FP paper ticket. It is creating a bit of confusion and back-up at the FP queues.

Here is a great write-up someone did on it from the MiceChat forum.

Anyway, I can also tell you that the listing someone posted (not this thread) about which current FP attractions are immediate return times, 30 minutes out or regular, is -as far as I can tell - completely accurate. The list I used and it seemed true all weekend was:

Tier 1 - Immediate Return Times
- Roger Rabbit
- Buzz Lightyear
- Haunted Mansion
- Big Thunder
- California Screamin

Tier 2 - Return in 30 minutes
- Matterhorn (a complete mess on Saturday, but by Sunday, the CMs seemed to have wrestled this FP line into a coherent, working process. They just need to block the FP return line from the right, since it feeds from the left and people kept coming up from the right thinking they could a) get into the standby line this way OR b) tried to cut into the FP return line.)
- Star Tours
- Goofy's Sky School

Tier 3 - Usual "Demand" return times (when they're gone, they're gone)
- Space Mountain
- Indiana Jones
- Radiator Springs Racers
- Guardians of the Galaxy
- Soarin' (see below regarding down attractions)
- Splash Mountain
- Midway Mania

You might wanna try this to avoid the wallet issue:

1) Use the Disney app
2) link your pass to the app
3) bring up your pass's QR code in the app
4) screenshot the QR code
5) show the screenshot of the QR code when you check in to use your fastpass

If you're like me, your phone is gonna be way more accessible than your wallet, you eliminate the need to fumble with the actual card, and you just have to pull up the picture before you get to the person doing the scan.

This is the only reason i wish they had a DL/DCA version of a MagicBand. The lanyards arent much better. Maybe they'll tie the DisneyApp into an Applewatch app with your barcode. Finally give me an reason to get an apple watch

Thanks, I do have that app with my pass linked to it. I'll definitely use that on my next visit!

**I actually saw a video on YouTube by Fresh Baked and one of the guys did what you just described, except on his Apple watch. I guess the CM's at first were cool and excited to see it, but then he was warned not to use that again. I guess there is some fine print somewhere that states a "third party media form" cannot be used. Not sure if they would frown on the phone thing or not. I'll still try it and see what they say.

From my visit last night. Sorry again about the sizes.

I took these through holes in the fences that're up along the Big Thunder Mountain Trail between Fantasyland and Frontierland.

Great pix Darby!

I forgot to mention this a couple weeks ago; one thing I noticed when walking through the newly revamped Big Thunder Trail is that they did away with the texture of the cement that exists in all of Frontierland. It is now smooth, boring and, sans horseshoe prints. Also, after viewing Darby's photos, it looks like there are two different styles of fencing as well leading down the path to SWLand. One is the classic Frontierland posts, and the other (seen in the first pic on the left) has the coated wire mesh...which also exists near the Hungry Bear now too...and near the bridge I believe by the pond on Big Thunder Trail.
