All Things:THEME PARKS

As much as I love Star Wars I'm not a huge fan of it going into the original park. It sucks that they are destroying some of the original areas of the park to make way for the new land. What bothers me even more about this is how they continue to neglect Tomorrowland and threw a temporary Star Wars re-skin over it until SWL is complete. The People Mover (more recently Rocket Rods, but will always be People Mover tracks to me) tracks have sat vacant since the year 2000, 15 years!!!

There was definitely a time I would have felt like this. For some reason, though, I'm happy to have memories of how the park used to be; but I'm also happy to have experienced some of the upgrades and additions they've made over the many years; and I welcome the changes to come!

Can someone tell me...are they scrapping Big Thunder Mountain. I mean...they just refurbished it. I sure hope not.

I am not necessarily against theme parks changing things around. Disneyland has been making changes since it began and it's part of the process.

With that being said, I hope the Disneyland in the afterlife still has the People Mover. ;)

No. Star Wars is basically gonna go where the ranch is behind Big Thunder. Off the walkway that links Fantasyland to Frontierland. It'll basically sit next to Toon Town.

[edit]One of the guesses as to how this'll be situated.

Walt even said that Disneyland will never be finished as long as their is imagination left in the world. I think the hang up many people are having is that this is just another IP shoehorn into the parks. I'm confident the final product will be executed astoundingly. But is it necessarily creative? Just about every new attraction has been based on an IP, and this is no different. I'm all for the evolution of the park, as long as they are bringing original concepts to the table.

With virtually anything with Big Thunder in it's name apparently being closed due to star wars land I sent an email to Disneyland checking to see if the attraction itself was gonna go...

Dear Samuel,

Thank you for your email to the DISNEYLAND? Resort.

Our Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction will not be removed.

Again, thank you for taking the time to write. We hope you will have the
opportunity to visit the DISNEYLAND? Resort soon and trust your visit
will be pleasant in all regards.

Sincerely,

so now I can relax. The petting zoo animals are apparently being gifted to an animal care facility that the park has worked with as well...so that's nice.

Interesting. My oldest daughter has an internship at WDW starting in April and we will be going down with her to set her up in her new living quarters as well as spending some days in the parks. We will see what comes of it and I will report back to lgk ...

Honestly hope it doesn't affect her...it's funny...you see the kids reaction to meeting the characters, and you get it. That is NOT an aspect they should ever cut down on. Hell...one time when we were waiting in line for Alice, and as the parade went by Eeyore made eye contact and waved at me...even I got all squee. What can I say, Disney sets the wayback machine to when I was a little kid.

So excite.

Not surprising how short the ride is.

Took this maybe 10 days ago or so. You can see the back of the facade in Toon Town and the berm that's going to hide the construction from the River (to the picture's right). I think they plan on planting more trees there, too.

Dunno if they're going to remove any of the remaining buildings nearer to the camera later on. But basically, there's the footprint.

I heard about that. I'm inclined to believe someone has been slipping the riders a couple of puking pastilles.

Or they visited the bar before hand?

Sometimes Star Tours makes me a little dizzy with the 3d glasses, and with this sounds a lot more immersive, I could see nausea becoming a factor.

I believe that all of the buildings closest to the camera as well as those to the right will be removed. The plot of land cleared next to ToonTown is apparently for future expansion and not part of Star Wars Land...rumored to be Arendale from Frozen as part of a Fantasyland expansion. Below is a map from Micechat showing the relative locations of the new buildings.
