This game made me think of the great start that Thomas had a few years ago. After 2-3 games folks on here were already penciling him in for a top 9 role.

I still believe he was another Hiller casualty. Maybe he never really had it, but also true some guys never recover from a lack of trust like that. Had to play mistake-free hockey to earn a few fourth line minutes from Hiller and inevitably ended up watching instead of playing.

I am not sure. I seem to recall him getting plenty of minutes for a few games after that. He literally disappeared and was ineffective. His play caused the lack of minutes as much as Hiller being Hiller.

One thing that happens when you only play entrenched vets who have “earned” it is that you don’t see anyone playing with the fire of kids are trying to earn it. I feel like some of these kids could actually inspire the vets.

Higher AVG TOI than I thought in 24/25, but those 25 games came sporadically. He never got a long run of games.

He also had a bad camp that year so as I said he may never have really had it, but we’ve all watched other players of similar stature get much longer looks. Amadio was a warm body his last season here but he never got taken out of the lineup. He went on to win a Cup and is still playing today.

Hiller didn’t give Thomas enough of a chance IMO.
