I 100% agree. My only concern at this point (and its a minor concern) is that while he's on the rise, Moore's only had one very good season. If Iafallo becomes THE cap concern that threatens Moore's status with the team, and Moore continues to improve, you absolutely move Iafallo.

But I don't see that being what the iHate is about. There are a few here who simply can't grasp the concepts of business, team morale, individual character and leadership. All these things play into Iafallo being where he is. If he comes available GMs will be calling Blake, despite what the iHaters might think.

It's not hate. It's strictly financials and ice time. Next summer we'll need to re-up Moore. We won't be able to afford both.

Getting FiaLA is like being 8 years old on Christmas and getting the exact bike you always wanted. You knew it was a bit too extravagant but finances don't exist at that age. Now the 26th of Dec and you realize you live in the North East with 10ft of snow outside at -12* and it will be 3 months before you get to actually use the bike.

This is torture.

Then best to hold on to both, let Moore continue to prove himself and move Iafallo at the trade deadline if/when he does. As good as Moore was last season, he greatly benefited from playing with Danault. I'd be willing to bet has Iafallo been on Danault's line for the majority of the season he'd put up just as good of numbers, if not better. Moore does have more untapped potential though, while Iafallo he probably reached his ceiling - so no harm in taking a bit of time to see how much Moore is able to grow this season and make an informed decision on who best to trade.

That works too. Like somebody smarter than me said on one of these threads "Iafallo is a 3rd line luxury that we can currently afford". We have the time now to see how things shake out. Blake needs to be thinking of an exit strategy for one of Moore/Iafallo and how he maximizes the value of his assets. Nothing more or less than that right now. Come next spring, he better act because his mind will be made for him next summer.

The issue is that the team needs an upgrade on D and they're out of cap space to get it, assuming they have a target in mind.

I think we've seen all that we are going to see out of Iafallo. And frankly, that's not good enough. So if he were part of a deal to get somebody...I'd be all for it.

Yes, but I thought this was resolved in the Chychurn thread. Pretty sure the last page was: Vilardi+ Petersen for Jakob, some chunky turquoise unisex jewelrey and a Phish bootleg.

I did not do the capfriendly math but I think this gets us close.

I agree with that point. Really curious to see what Kempe resigns for as that may force Blake's hand. If he desperately needs to free up salary space Iafallo, Roy or Petersen seem the way to go. Doubt there is much of a market for Petersen currently, so that leaves Iafallo and Roy both of which cause us to take another hit to our leadership (which is more imperative than ever with Brown retiring) but as useful as both are we could absorb the loss.

On the long term strategy, though, it's hard to think that if Moore has another season like last season that he signs for less than $4m/year at the end of the season. So potentially we could be in a position that by trading Iafallo (locked in through 2024-45 and whose next contract will likely reduce) we could end up losing both Iafallo at Moore at the end of the season.

Kopi's contract is up after 23-24. I thought that was the plan all along - let the current highly paid vets be the bridge and leadership for the new core...and after the oldies are off the books, you have the cap to resign whoever proves worthy.

Agreed, but Moore's contract expires in 2022-23, which we do have Quick's contract expiring at the same time but Kopi's will benefit Byfield and others not named Moore based on timing.

Why do we all play armchair GM? Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't Faber opt out and we lose him for nothing before he was even in the system? Great trade. Something for nothing. Maybe I've just been throwing back grandpa's cough medicine, but I really don't get what everyone is upset about, other than it wasn't Turcotte or Villardi as the piece going back.

I haven't seen too many, or really any, upset posts in regards to this trade. Where are you seeing upset posts?

Also both Turcotte and Vilardi are each worth more than Faber at this point so including one of them in the trade probably wouldn't be a great thing. With Faber, even though he projects to be a solid NHL defenseman with a lot of upside, the positive is that we are loaded at RD and can absorb the loss.

There is a big chance I had a bit too much of grandpa's cough medicine when I tried to poorly execute what I was trying to say. Everyone just keep on keeping on. Sorry bout that. I had to close one eye to even type. I also wasn't saying to include Villardi or Turcotte. I have no no problem with the trade. I don't even consider it "absorbing the loss" you can't really lose what you don't have yet (theoretically). I guess what is was getting at is, great trade. First time in my 39 years of life I've seen such an embarrassment of riches that we have to trade away.

Just a more you know moment but...apparently "grandpa's cough syrup" is causing our pal lil Wayne to have seizures. Post when you've switched to fentanyl.*yawn*
